country pet rescue

Thursday mornings at 8:40, the WQMX Wynn and Wilson morning show welcomes GeorjetteThomas from One Of A Kind Pet Rescue.

She tells us about some special animals that need a home. It's our goal to not only find a home for our featured homeless pet, but to educate and encourage animal adoption in our area.

Although we feature mostly dogs on this site, there are many wonderful cats available at One Of A Kind Pets too.

True to its name, One Of A Kind is truly a one of a kind place with a special mission. They not only rescue animals off the street, but they also go to "the pound" and rescue animals who are about to be euthanized. They literally save these animals from certain death.
You can visit their adoption center located at 1929 West Market Street, Akron,Ohio 44313 or online at oneofakindpets.com

Kodiak

Did you know that approximately 25% of all dogs and puppies in a shelter will be purebred or of a designer breed? Yep ... crazy isn't it! That is because people purchase pets and then, often, loose their commitment to be a "pet parent." This is not uncommon in higher socioeconomic situations where the larger sum of money to purchase the pet wasn't a factor and pets are viewed as disposable. Let's change this for these deserving pets.

Meet Kodiak ... sweet and lovable, this HUGE boy will do great in a home that respects his breed-specific personality and his temperament. His energy is just as attractive as his looks and he is enthusiastic about life. He will do well with people of mild energy that will monitor his interactions. We adore this huge boy and you will too. Don't delay ... come to meet Kodiak today! Because he is so exceptional, he won't be here long! Thank you, photographer, Olivia Mandala, for capturing their cuteness!

Gigi

Different life experiences shape the way we see our world and, oddly, abandoned, abused and neglected pets still see the glass half full. Once in a place of security, their scars will heal, confidence grows and they learn to trust. When this is accomplished, we see their zest for life appear. And, what a wonderful thing to witness and be a part of!

Gigi is an extraordinary dog looking for a home. After waiting in an animal control facility for two months, this sweet girl experienced a seizure. Because seizures will not be managed in a “pound,” she was sure to meet with a harsh fate. Her wonderful temperament assured Gigi the opportunity to be rescued.

This deserving girl has an unbridled enthusiasm for life that can't be rivaled. Everything in life is new and exciting to her, and it's a pleasure watching her revel in joy when she experiences something for the first time. She has never met a creature, or person, she didn't want to befriend. She loves to play with her canine cohorts, and when she's tuckered out she will snuggle up with her best friend - a little black cat!

We don't know whether Gigi's epilepsy is a result of the stress-inducing environment of a shelter, or if she's dealt with it her entire life. She shows stability on her anti-seizure medication and is living a normal life – but not in a normal environment! Lucky for Gigi, her treatment is not expensive and her condition is easy to manage. Most importantly, she’s worth it! Thank you, Olivia Mandala, photographer, for making Gigi look as beautiful as she is.
