A rare Belgian beer called Westvleteren XII -- often hailed as the best beer in the world -- has made its U.S. debut, although the elusive brew may not be sold here for long.
Westvleteren XII is produced by Trappist monks at the abbey of Saint Sixtus in the Belgian countryside, and only available for purchase through hard-to-get reservations. The beer's sudden appearance in the States is a financial necessity for the abbey -- after a round of expensive renovations, the monks decided to sell the beer outside the monastery for one time only.
Westvleteren Brewery spokesman Mark Bode told NPR that he believed "it will be the last [time]" the beer would be sold in this manner. "They say, 'We are monks, we don't want to be too commercial. We needed some money to help us buy the new abbey and that's it,' Back to normal again."

We started talking about Christmas Ale this morning which led to a conversation about using beer in soup. Here's a link to a Christmas Ale Soup recipe!
We've all heard of kids making Christmas gift lists for their family to use as a guide. Even some adults do that in big family. But Deadspin has perhaps the most obnoxious list ever, sent out by a 21-year-old Massachusetts woman.
The list opens with "I kept it simple this year," but then goes on to an incredible level of detail so her family members people don't get her any slightly different gifts than the ones she wants.
She ends up compiling over 35 gifts that she wants, and breaks it down into "stocking stuffers," "smaller grade items," and "larger more expensive items."
The most annoying part? She tells people that if they can't afford any of these items, they can get her gift cards.
