country pet rescue

Thursday mornings at 8:40, the WQMX Wynn and Wilson morning show welcomes GeorjetteThomas from One Of A Kind Pet Rescue.

She tells us about some special animals that need a home. It's our goal to not only find a home for our featured homeless pet, but to educate and encourage animal adoption in our area.

Although we feature mostly dogs on this site, there are many wonderful cats available at One Of A Kind Pets too.

True to its name, One Of A Kind is truly a one of a kind place with a special mission. They not only rescue animals off the street, but they also go to "the pound" and rescue animals who are about to be euthanized. They literally save these animals from certain death.
You can visit their adoption center located at 1929 West Market Street, Akron,Ohio 44313 or online at oneofakindpets.com

Gigi

Different life experiences shape the way we see our world and, oddly, abandoned, abused and neglected pets still see the glass half full. Once in a place of security, their scars will heal, confidence grows and they learn to trust. When this is accomplished, we see their zest for life appear. And, what a wonderful thing to witness and be a part of!

Gigi is an extraordinary dog looking for a home. After waiting in an animal control facility for two months, this sweet girl experienced a seizure. Because seizures will not be managed in a “pound,” she was sure to meet with a harsh fate. Her wonderful temperament assured Gigi the opportunity to be rescued.

This deserving girl has an unbridled enthusiasm for life that can't be rivaled. Everything in life is new and exciting to her, and it's a pleasure watching her revel in joy when she experiences something for the first time. She has never met a creature, or person, she didn't want to befriend. She loves to play with her canine cohorts, and when she's tuckered out she will snuggle up with her best friend - a little black cat!

We don't know whether Gigi's epilepsy is a result of the stress-inducing environment of a shelter, or if she's dealt with it her entire life. She shows stability on her anti-seizure medication and is living a normal life – but not in a normal environment! Lucky for Gigi, her treatment is not expensive and her condition is easy to manage. Most importantly, she’s worth it! Thank you, Olivia Mandala, photographer, for making Gigi look as beautiful as she is.

Bart

Hi, my name is Bart and I want to go home. I am an adult dog and I have the best disposition ever! In fact, I am a shelter "favorite" because I get along with everybody and everything. I am just that agreeable. I have the typical appeal that all young Labradors have ... soft fur, sweet eyes, irresistible ears and because of my past, a few needy behaviors :). Hey, you may as well know it up front ... I'm a young dog and I lack a bit of confidence. Please don't think of putting me (or any of us) in a cage for 10 hours a day because that just won't work - not for you or for me. And, please don't chain me up to live outside for my lifetime because that kind of life is not in my plans. Keep in mind, I am a social animal - all dogs are - and that would lead to a lonely existence! So let's find some balls, figure out a walking route, check out a few dog parks, and begin our life together. A life of love and friendship! My "thanks" to Olivia Mandala ... she's one terrific photographer!
