Mama Knows – Shenandoah – 1988 – (Album – The Road Not Taken)
This song to me, is simply terrific. This was a big hit, #5, but listeners loved this song. The neo-traditionalist movement was just starting, and here come a bunch of nice boys singing a traditional country song about how great mom is. This was a can’t miss, This was not their first single, it was their fourth. It also did not end up being their biggest hit. This was on their second album, after their first really got no traction. At the time this was their biggest song, but a bunch of number ones would follow and this was the song that launched them to much better times. This song is wonderfully written with some really slick harmonies and landed in the perfect hands. This is a song that makes you feel good and for me, is one I have to hear till it ends, even if it means driving around the block a time or two. Perfect song for this!
