I am the youngest of three kids and it’s been a long time since we were kids. But as kids I always remember coming downstairs to see the tree and gifts that Santa left for us.
I remember there was always ONE unwrapped gift because it was too big or awkwardly shaped to wrap. I always hoped it was for me. There were times it was and years it wasn’t. If it wasn’t I always tried to pretend I was happy for who it actually WAS for, but I’m not so sure I was very good at it. But luckily, we also had the situation where there was another gift that was always brought out at the end of gift giving that was for someone else. And that was for me sometimes, as there was a 1 in 2 chance, as it was never for the other kid that cleaned up with the first unwrapped gift two hours earlier. Kinda like the end of A Christmas Story.
Of course those are the feelings of a little kid, and at the end of the morning we were all very happy about the bounty we each received. Sadly there weren’t enough of those wonderful times we had as an entire family, as I was far younger than my two siblings, and then my dad died so young. But for those I can remember, they were glorious.
Windy and I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful holiday season, we are in Florida this week, at our home here. That’s our gift to each other every year.
Guess what? It’s the unwrapped one!
