There’s one more game today in Baltimore, and the Browns are 3-13 after losing at home to the Dolphins 20-3.  The Dolphins aren’t very good either, but they came here with a backup QB we cut a few months ago and won a game they needed to win to stay alive in the playoff hunt.  More humiliation for the Browns who from a personnel standpoint, can’t seem to get much right.

No one is saying Tyler Huntley is a great QB, but he was in Browns camp this year with NFL starting experience as a Raven.  But we went with DTR because he’s cheap and the front office drafted him, and they’re going to show us they got that right.  They didn’t.  DTR has shown zero attributes needed to be a successful NFL QB.  He looks over matched and like he’s going to get hurt on every play.  His offense scored 9 points in 2 games.  When you see other young QB’s in the league, you can see flashes at minimum of why they’re here. We’ve seen none of that.  He can help the Browns as a practice squad QB, as he does have skills that mimic other QB’s, but not on Sundays.  But in fairness to the Browns, very few 5th round QB picks are successful.  The Brock Purdy’s and Tom Brady’s are very rare. BTW, DTR is the ONLY QB this team has drafted in 5 years.

The Browns and the draft are not friends.  Right now we have a top three pick in the next draft, and it will be interesting to see what they do.  After squandering six picks to Houston the past three years they went on to basically whiff on the picks they still did have.   And that’s not inaccurate.  You would be hard pressed to find a team that has drafted worse in the past 4-5 years than the Browns.  Bad trades, or the dreaded trading down has not worked, and that’s not inaccurate either.  Oh there’s a mild success here and there, but the draft is to help you reload or rebuild.  The only reloading we’ve done is to shoot ourselves in the foot.  Should be noted, Myles, Chubb, Ward, Njoku, and Baker (among league leading QB’s) were NOT drafted by these guys.  John Dorsey did, now in Detroit with the Lions (14-2) – ’nuff said.

They have invited Watson to camp, as they restructured his contract again.  He’s scheduled to play here till 2026, and this about guarantees it.   So what about the draft?  Will they pick a young QB?  Or will they take the very sexy pick of an offensive tackle, or more help in the secondary, they love that.  What this bunch likes to do is trade down, and get more picks for the next draft.  Can be a useful tool if you’re in the right situation. We are not. We have a lot of good players in their prime and waiting two more years is silly.  It’s time to start taking the players others.  Stop passing on the Mahomes’, Josh Allens’, and countless others that change franchises.  Heck, this year Puka Nacua of the Rams  – a 5th rounder!  May be among the best receivers in the entire league.  How on earth did our Ivy Leaguers miss him passing on him 4 times, and they’re going to the playoffs.  As are the Texans, Bucs and Lions the other teams whom we made thier dreams come true.

There will be scapegoats, more than likely Offensive Coordinators, Special Teams, and Offensive Line coaches to be broomed.  But in the ridiculous situation they’re in, with all the “collaboration” they brag about, this front office is gonna get one more shot.  Sadly, I feel they just love themselves too much to try to do things differently.  If this goes wrong, there will finally be changes there.  That’s not negative –  that’s honest.  There’s no logical reason to honestly feel they’re going to do any better than they have.  There’s no track record to back them up or evidence to support such.

Here’s to a new year, and an off season with another chance to finally get it right.
