So most employers offer up sick days…  People do get under the weather from time-to-time.  In the most recent weeks and a number of times thru the years musicians get sick.  Sure a drummer or guitarist can weather the sickness.  A singer using a voice as a tool that is weak to totally gone is not going to work in a live show.

-Parker McCollum recently canceled a show after 5 songs in State College, PA.  After walking off posted an apology and will make-up the show.

– Kelsea Ballerini who has been essentially everywhere lately canceled a show this week in Buffalo after a half dozen songs.

I have no problem with these artists throwing in the towel on a show since they will not be able to give fans their best.  I do have a problem with the artist not calling it sooner.  I remember Eric Church calling off a show to go to a UNC Basketball Game a few years ago… it was canceled a day before and people lost their minds.  Most folks who go to a show put a lot more than just the trip to show and trip home.

Fans show up early, buy merch, go out to dinner, grab drinks, take days off work, spend a huge amounts of money on tickets and service charges.  Artists have to do better than just give it the ‘Old College Try”.   Parker and Kelsea did move make-up shows to the end of their tour which will allow fans to have another night out and be able to collect more checks to pay for those nights out…   I enjoy all live music!  I enjoy both these and our artists!  Anyone could get sick at anytime especially during flu season.

This will not be the first sick day and won’t be the last!  I would rather have plans canceled ahead of time than as the party starts.  We know Kelsea is tough, busy and great with her fans.  Hope she feels better sooner than later.
