For a whole lot of years these guys ran off a bunch of really big songs. As of this writing, they are back on the road putting on great shows again. This song was right in the middle of their incredible run that was a huge hit both country and pop. This was written by a GREAT songwriter named Jeffery Steele who has penned dozens of big country songs, and was first recorded by early 2000’s hit maker, Mark Wills. It’s interesting sometimes the song just has to get to the right artist. Of all the Rascal Flatts songs, this is the one that really cut through. That’s taking nothing away from Melt, or Life Is A Highway, or a bunch of others, but this seemed to be next level for them. This is a powerful, sad ballad that is honest and relatable. This is also maybe Gary Levox’s best performance in one of their songs. One of the observations during this time was that many of their ballads sort of ran together, and there is a certain truth to that. But this song was different and struck fans, and then stuck with them. Is this their best song? For my money, yes. It also is one of those songs, where I can’t imagine anyone else but them singing it. Great song, great performance, great run.
