When Post Malone announced his country project, the eyebrow raising was minimal as we’ve gotten used to out of formatters wanting to do a country album. Post Malone then succesfully walked through a door that was opened a few years earlier by another out of format artist I will feature higher up on this list at #25. We were curious of course, and wondered how it would be. The eventual size of this album is not to be ignored, it’s a major country success. The first single was with Morgan Wallen, I Had Some Help, and I was lukewarm to it, but it was a big hit. For me, it was more of a Wallen song than anything else. It sounded like it was one Wallen would have recorded without Post. But this was a different story. This is a real country bar song, with Blake Shelton. This is just a feel good, fun drinkin’ buddy song, where Post shines and Blake is riding along just fine. It’s slick country arrangement and really fun video sent this to the top, and for me solidified this huge selling album as a legit country project. What was also a very good move, there was no attempt to reinvent the wheel here, the goal was to show personal versatility, and an open eyed awareness of the current format. This song was the one that won over some of the still skeptical crowd. I was not among them. I thought he was right for a country project, I’m just glad he did a country project right. This song is hard not to like – well done.
