Today we continue my year-long series of the 50 Albums You Need To Own . This is NOT a countdown, but a showcase.  The albums are from my 46 years in Country Radio.  Wonder how many that will be featured are in your collection, either physical or digital.

Storms Of Life – Randy Travis –  (1986)

Rarely does an artist come along that captures our attention as quickly as Randy Travis. This was so fresh and new at the time, it took the format by storm. This album single-handedly ended the pop-country craze of the ’80’s that had been waning for some time.  This album was the death blow, and traditional country was now the rule.  It was his debut album that went on to sell many millions, and opened the eyes and ears of those who had been waiting for a sound like this.  As a result of this album, he went on to inspire the next generation(s). This was the pivotal point in starting the avalanche of new artists and styles that we still are riding today.  This album won him, 4 ACM Awards, a CMA, and countless nominations from many other award bodies. It also launched on of the most successful careers Country Music has ever seen. If you’ve never heard this album it’s worth the listen, as it is Country Music history.
