If you've listened to it, I'm curious if you have a favorite. Here's mine:

Just a few more days...

Megan Moroney's sophomore album, Am I Okay? comes out this Friday, and if you know me, you know I'm beyond excited. Lucky is one of my favorite albums and I'm stoked to see what follows.

I guess Megan's pumped too, as she keeps giving us some tastes of the blue era she's entering. That's the color, not the feeling, as the aesthetic for this project is saturated in deep, rich blues. This is in contrast to the green theme of her previous album, and I hope she keeps this color idea going in the future.

Anyhow, she's provided for us yet another sample of what's to come Friday, and I'm all about it. What do you think?

Chesney and Moroney

What an amazing concert! It was my first time out at Blossom this season and an overall awesome evening out on the lawn.

Just coming into the place, it was apparent this was going to be a huge show. Before we could even make it to the signs that read sold out, we came upon some major traffic. We shimmied through it all in decent time, and I made it over to the WQMX setup.

I met some awesome listeners at the tent, and we invited everybody to enter to win Hank Williams Jr. tickets. The crowds flooded in continuously, and we packed up once Megan Moroney started playing.

She was amazing! Don't hate me, but I was honestly more excited to see her perform than the main act, and she did not disappoint. The only song I wish she would have played but didn't was "Sad Songs for Sad People." She did, however, play my favorite, "Sleep On My Side." She also played her brand-new song which just dropped at midnight, as well as some other great songs. To no surprise, she capped it off with "Tennessee Orange."

After a fairly long intermission, as the sky grew dimmer, the ambient music came to a stop and something was clearly about to happen. The big screens lit up with a video of No Shoes Nation, Kenny Chesney and his fans, introducing the tour. Yachts, beaches, bikinis- you know the vibes.

When that faded out, the stage lit up showing the full band with Kenny centerstage. They came in hitting hard with a loud sound and big overall presence. He played all the hits and sounded like a million bucks.

It was a popping show for Blossom and a gorgeous night too. The dark clouds passed by and we all stayed dry, and it was temperate with a nice little breeze. We couldn't ask for better! Kenny kept laying down his best, Megan was fabulous, and we had a great concert night.

Be sure to check out our WQMX social media pages for all the pictures from the show. I'll be at Blossom next for Hank Williams Jr. coming up Friday, June 21st. If you're going to that or any other country concerts this season, maybe we'll see you there!

What Are You Listening To?

Coming off the weekend, I've had a little bit of an earworm. The official release for this track came towards the end of last week, and since Friday I've listened to it countless times. It's one of those tunes you could leave on repeat and enjoy just the same the fifth time over as the first time around.

It's every-so-often I find a song like this, and I'm sure it won't take long for me to over-listen to it and lose my infatuation. For now, though, I'm hooked! Originally penned and recorded by Chris Stapleton, What Are You Listening To? was described by Megan Moroney in an interview as a "criminally underrated" song of his. Here's her version of it for you to check out!

Her Voice!

It's no secret that I am a huge fan of Megan Moroney. I'm picking up what she's putting down musically, and I think her voice is just so unique and cool. This might be a bold claim, but I think she's got the potential and right sound to work as (female) Morgan Wallen type. I feel like you could put the same song in front of them and either would make it great, and that she could cover just about any one of his songs tastefully. I NEED a duet between them! That's not exactly the topic of this blog, however.

On the note of cover/tribute type songs, Thomas Rhett has been getting some appreciation and love thrown his way by a variety of country music stars, including Moroney. He just recently released his 20 Number Ones album, and to honor his impressive legacy with this milestone Fritos has sponsored a number of these cover performances with names such as Breland, Conner Smith, and Mackenzie Carpenter joining in to offer their talent. Like I said, I'm big into Megan Moroney, so hers was the one who brought my attention to this performances but I am excited to watch them all and see how each artist takes a spin on some notorius Rhett tunes. Here's her video:

Old Dominion announced that the follow up to their ninth number one single, "Memory Lane", will be "Can't Break Up Now" with Megan Moroney! It'll be on their upcoming album Memory Lane due out on October 6th.

The band says "Can't Break Up Now" is about two people with a lot of history, and that tough point that unfortunately some people get to, where maybe a change needs to happen. But it's kind of hard to reconcile it and imagine that this is where your life has taken you as a couple. It can also be a hopeful song and inspiring to really dig in and work on it and fix it and commit to a relationship that obviously has been through quite a journey.

Next From Megan Moroney: I'm Not Pretty

She just earned her very first #1 single with "Tennessee Orange", and now Megan Moroney has announced her follow up. I remember her telling us the story of "I'm Not Pretty" at our charity concert with her at the Dusty Armadillo. Her ex-boyfriends new girlfriend had liked a picture of her from 2016 on Instagram and Megan got the notification, so she turned it into a song. She said, "I think a lot of my fans can relate to this and we've probably all been on one side or the other of this song."
