Wonderful Woman Wednesdays

WQMX Wonderful Woman Wednesdays

Nominate a Wonderful Woman and each Wednesday we will feature someone!

We want to salute Wonderful Women with our new Wonderful Woman Wednesday feature!

If you know a wonderful woman with a wonderful story:

an entrepreneur, a philanthropist, a volunteer, an ordinary person who quietly does extraordinary things...

Tell us about her! We’ll share a story every Wednesday morning and salute

the Wonderful Woman all day long on the air, online and on social media!

This Week's Wonderful Woman is Merle Griff from Canton!

MG headshot

Merle's co-worker, Cathy Cooke nominated her and said this about her...

"Merle Griff is my nominee for Wonder Woman because of her constant work in advocating for seniors, and programs and services that support them and allows them to age gracefully and with dignity.

My boss, Merle Griff, is the founder and CEO of SarahCare Daytime Senior Care & Activities, an adult day services company. Merle is passionate about the elderly and understands the need for senior care programs. She founded SarahCare in 1985 after her own mother suffered a stroke and finding there were very few care options available to them. Merle's idea was to provide care services to the elderly in our centers during the day, allowing them to be home at night, with their families, in the homes they love. Merle works tirelessly to advocate for senior rights, often meeting with local politicians and leaders on Capitol Hill to discuss pending legislature.

Not only does Merle work to provide the highest quality care and services for seniors, but as a licensed psychologist, she knows the importance of encouraging and providing care for the caregivers. She is always looking for a way that SarahCare can give back to the communities that support us, providing caregiver support groups, informational and educational presentations, and health and wellness classes - all free of charge. If one person tells Merle about a need they have for their elderly loved one, she will try to find and implement a solution, rationalizing that if one person is having this problem, others are, too. Despite being a senior citizen and a caregiver herself, Merle works tirelessly to find avenues and opportunities to advocate for senior care programs, not only locally, but nationally. She works longer hours than anyone in this company, and it is not unusual for her staff to wake up and find emails in our inboxes that she sent at midnight or 4am.

Merle personally sits on many boards and councils that enrich our communities, including the National Adult Day Services Association Public Policy Committee, the Board of Directors for Stark State College, United Way Women's Leadership Council, Aultman Hospital Women';s Board, Summa Hospital Senior Advisory Council."

WQMX Music Survey

We want your opinion on the music we play on WQMX.

Your opinions help us determine the songs to play on the radio.

If you've taken music surveys before, this time, we have a special extended survey,

consisting of about 500 songs. Some of them you hear every day,

some not so often, some not at all. This survey is your chance to let us know what you

think about the songs. The results of this survey will have a direct influence on

WQMX music programming for a long time to come. Don't worry, you won't have to listen to

the whole song, just a little clip of it. It will take maybe an hour to vote on all the songs

but you can stop, and go back and finish it later.

The 1st 100 people to complete this survey will receive $25.00

Thanks in advance for helping make WQMX the best it can be!

Contest Rules

Contest Rules

To participate in any WQMX game or contest that requires a cue to call in, you must call 370-2000 from the Akron area.  WQMX and it's owner, the Rubber City Radio Group reserves the right to stop any game at any time. No purchase is necessary to enter or to win any WQMX contest. Additional contests are often executed online, via text or social media. The rules for each individual contest are always on the associated contest page for that contest at wqmx.com

If, after any contest has begun, any changes or updates are deemed necessary, the changes will be announced at approximately 7:10am on the day that the change is to take effect.

In the spirit of fairness, anyone who has won a prize on the radio from WQMX is ineligible to win for a period of 30 days. Only one (1) winner per household (street address) is allowed during that period of time. Persons from households where an individual has won a GRAND prize, which could have a value that is "priceless" due to its "experience" nature, or one with a monetary valued at $500 or more are ineligible to participate in any WQMX major contest for a period of one (1) year. Grand prizes are NOT transferable.

Individuals must be 18 years of age or older in order to be able to participate in WQMX contests, unless otherwise noted.  Employees of WQMX, The Rubber City Radio Group and members of their immediate families are ineligible to participate in any game. Employees of any sponsor or agency involved with any contest are also ineligible to participate, as are members of their respective families.

The station reserves the right to any video, audio, photographic or print material which involves the winner(s) or their families for promotional use without further permission. All winners agree to participate with the station and it's advertising agencies in publicizing or broadcasting winners' names, winnings, their picture or character likeness without further compensation. Winners will be solely responsible for the payment of any and all expenses and taxes associated with receipt of any prize.

All winners must sign a release form agreeing to hold harmless the Rubber City Radio Group, radio station WQMX, and all of their respective directors, officers, employees and agents from all losses, damages, penalties, claims, actions, suits, costs and expenses of any kind whatsoever, including any property damage, personal injury or death to any participant or third person arising out of or in connection with participation in any contest or with the use of any prizes awarded in connection with the contest.

All decisions of station management with regard to the awarding of prizes, the selection of winners and the interpretation of these rules shall be final. Each contestant, by virtue of entering any contest, agrees to accept the decision of the station as final.

Written contest rules are available at the Akron Radio Center, 1795 West Market Street, Akron, OH 44313. Contest rules are available for inspection during regular business hours, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm.
