My grandfather Virgil Holm served in World War II. He passed away on Veterans Day 32 years ago from a massive heart attack.

I was only 5 when my grandpa died, but I remember him. I think that has a lot to do with that fact that my sister and I spent a bunch of time with him and my parents did a great job of talking about him every chance they got. My memories of him are ones I cherish so very much.

Today is day I thank all Veterans and military personnel for their service, but I also take some time to remember my sweet grandpa. He picked me up from pre-school, made me giggle, taught me how to make a six-pointed star, took me to the circus, took me to Friendly’s and was the best grandpa a girl could ask for.
