WYNN - #11- Fishin' In The Dark - NGDB - 1987

Written by

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has been around for decades.  Their classic, Mr. Bojangles in 1970 is one of the most loved, and famous recordings of all time. They were all supreme musicians, and in the 80's NGDB went full on country, and for about 5 years ripped off a really nice line of top 5 songs, including 3 #1's.  And this was one of them, as it's also a many times over million seller.  The reason this song is so vitally important is this -  very few songs country has ever played was as loved, performed, sung, and influenced more future artists than this absolute gem of a hit song.  I've seen Garth play this song at a few shows, calling it one of his favorite songs, other artists too.  This song took you to a place and made you feel good, as it drove people down memory lane or described others lives perfectly.  This song also brought many people to our format that had not chosen us before.  In that era, there were many newer artists that were bringing us new fans, and there were certain songs that did too. This one as much as any did just that as there was just something about this song.   When you think of just a feel good, escapism country song, this is it.  This is about perfect in every regard. This is as loved and any country song ever recorded. Exceedingly influential and loved.
