On My Way To You – Cody Johnson – 2018
I remember the first time I heard this song, I knew two things. It was going to be a huge hit, or with it being a mostly unknown artist, one of the biggest chart crimes ever. This song is so well written, arranged and performed, it rates really high on this list. Everyone who has a beating heart has at one time felt the way he feels in this song. This is a love song of course, but it doesn’t sound like one. It’s bold, and strong, and says what it has to say with confidence and conviction. As for the two ways I was feeling, I was wrong on both counts as it turned out. It was not a HUGE hit, but didn’t fizzle on the charts either, as it stalled at #13. But this has sold over 2 million, and gave us Cody Johnson, who has enjoyed great success since. BUT this song is a work of country music art – what a song! This had to be recorded by a “hat act” as it really gives it credibility. I feel it will be tough for any artist who had this this song to rec0rd a better 0ne.
