I may be walking out on a bit of a limb here, but my gut feeling says this is the way to go. This half spoken / half sung debut song from newcomer Ella Langley along with Riley Green was a smash. This is totally country, taking us back to a more traditional time. This throwback type of song cut through from its first play on WQMX, as it rolled into the top 10. I feel this song also may be looked back upon as one that started something special. Listeners love this and so did I, as it’s highly original, exceedingly confident and incredibly daring in today’s musical climate. It also proves that many times, especially now, we just take ourselves too seriously in our format. There is a lot of heaviness at times, with so much intensity, it can be fatiguing. This approach is the polar opposite of that, supplying us with a refreshing oasis from the many overly sung songs. It’s fun without being a novelty, relaxed with its perfect picture painting imagery that is right on the money. This is highly visual, and that always scores major points with me. It also sounds good today, and will tomorrow and for a whole lot of tomorrows after that. Yes, this could be a gamble on this list, but I know original when I hear it, and right now this is 100% original. This is one of the better country songs of the past number of years.
