Today begins my year-long series of the 50 Albums You Need To Own . This is NOT a countdown, but just a showcase of a lot of great music. The albums will be from my 46 years in Country Radio. Wonder how many that will be featured are in your collection, either physical or digital.
Week 1 – Traveler – Chris Stapleton (2015)
We’ll start off with one of the biggest, most successful, and influential country albums of all time. Chris Stapleton, at this moment was a well known and talented Nashville songwriter. This was his introduction to the rest of us with his own project. This album is simply amazing, and his unique and riveting performance on this is legendary. There is not a long list of albums in any format, that are this good, and make a newer artist this culturally powerful and important in a short period of time. It has w0n numerous awards from multiple organizations and platforms. The amount of single sales of Tennessee Whiskey alone are ridiculous, and the entire album is near the 10 million sales mark. It also spent a record breaking number of weeks on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. Fact is, in all of recorded music history, it’s one of the most overall successful albums ever.
