The late KT Oslin was about as original as they come. First off, she didn’t her break until she was 45 years old which is simply unheard of in any kind of format. She was not stereotypical in any way. Early on she was a jingle writer and dabbled in acting. Then in 1987 found her way to the country charts and country radio.
This Song Made Her A Star
Her style and voice were so distinct, so incredibly different, you almost had to listen when she came on. She sang honestly and did not run from who she was, and fans loved it. And for about 5 years or so she was a real player in our format with big hit songs, and winning a ton of awards.
This Was A Big Song – Gritty Stuff
Her 80’s Ladies album was an incredible success and so were her next few. She won 3 Grammy’s and is in the Nashville Song Writers Hall Of Fame. She wrote songs for many years with many being recorded by others. But her material was so different, it made her stand out from any crowd.
Big Song – #1
Her music was the marriage of different styles that was hard to categorize. She won a ton of awards and sold millions of albums. Her strength was her originality, and her authentic self that gave older fans someone to really relate to, as at that time, we were swamped with younger stars.
A Real Fan Favorite
KT Oslin was a gift. An unlikely star, at an unlikely time and more than original. She was the very definition of it.
KY Oslin passed way in 2020 at 78.
