Cowboy Casanova – Carrie Underwood – 2009 – (Album- Play On)
This song has been somewhat forgotten over the years and it’s puzzling as this had a great life during its run. This is still one of the biggest songs of her career. It’s in the same breath as Jesus Take The Wheel, and Blown Away. It was a big number one, was three times platinum and the video was HUGE. But times do change, and yes its true as you listen to this big hit today, it does have that “2010” sound, and isn’t exactly where we are today in country right now. This also may be the final song where her “gang chant background vocals” was effective, as it was probably overused, but served a purpose. But this song does have a great lineage as it was written by Carrie and Brett James who has written a ton of big songs. It was a big country hit world wide and even spent some time of the pop charts. Back then, Carrie was really on a roll and this was in the middle of her hay day. Fun to look back on this on.
