Mississippi Girl  – Faith Hill  – 2005   (Album – Fireflies)

After the Cry album that was very pop-infused, faith recorded Fireflies that was a musical retreat from the previous album. This song was written by songwriter supreme, John Rich.  The legend says that Rich was asked to follow Faith on a tour, took notes and wrote the song specifically for her as her comeback to country.  It was a big song, but many poo-pooed it as being too self serving and non-authentic, as the lyrics absolutely implied.  And there were also those who were not overly forgiving of her temporarily leaving the format for greener pastures.  BUT, in fairness, it was Grammy nominated and had the distinction of knocking Toby Keith out of the number one slot for As Good As I Once Was, which itself was a gigantic hit, a 6 week number one, and one of Toby’s biggest songs.  This was her last #1 song in America and Canada.
