Ashes By Now – Lee Ann Womack – 2001 – (Album – I Hope You Dance)
This song deserves a whole lot more love than it got in 2001. It had the distinction of being the follow-up song to the massive hit, I Hope You Dance, and sometimes those songs can get lost. But this song has a really interesting history. Written be a great songwriter, Rodney Crowell, he recorded it in 1978, went unnoticed and stopped at #40. Then Emmylou Harris recorded it a few years later to no avail. Then Lee Ann Womack in 2001, and it went to #4. I love this song, and I loved her during this era. Finally this song got the success it deserved. Sort of –
