Yard Sale – Sammy Kershaw – 1992 – (Album – Don’t Go Near The Water)
This was not Sammy Kershaws biggest song by any means, but this is perfect for the Forgotten Jukebox Series. This is a song that is a great example of a song ending up where it should. This song is simply perfect for Sammy Kershaw as only he could have pulled this off. This is a sad song about the end of a relationship and a yard sale is being held to get rid of many of the once loved possessions. Some of this is really gut-wrenching, but for some reason Kershaw whose whole demeanor and style is slightly disarming, this is incredibly believable. This is also a wonderful example of serious traditional early 90’s country, and fans loved it. I was a Kershaw fan, and I feel he was very underappreciated as an artist in the 1990’s. This was one on a very long list of Kershaw songs, that were perfect for him, that may not have been a hit in anyone else’s hands. To me, that’s the mark of a good artist. Sammy Kershaw was a very unique talent, and we should be glad we had him.
