Whether you were a BRC fan or not, there can be no mistake that when he burst on the scene years ago, he was as original at the time as one of our artists could be. I know you hate Achy Breaky Heart, but the hard cold reality is that it’s one of the biggest country hits ever, breaking all kind of sales records, and helping spark a new direction that helped fuel the 1990’s country boom.  He doesn’t probably get enough credit for that.

A Sensation

He was a new kind of star at that moment.  A bit outside of the norm in his look, image and sound.  He took a song that was passed on by many including the Oak Ridge Boys and was recorded by another artist to now avail, and made it an absolute smash.  It was a world wide hit, and a line dance club staple.

His Follow Up Single  #2

His album, Some Gave All was an incredible success as it was a mix of country and a rockier sound at the time than we were used to in 1992.  It sold about 20 million copies and with his slick young image, as he attracted millions of new fans to us that maybe we didn’t have before.  From new young fans, to Nana watching the grand kids sing this new song, he was  a sensation.

Very Underrated Song  #6 Hit

Granted, his actual impacted chart run was short, but his quick impact was very large.  For the fans that hated Achy Breaky Heart, they for the most part respected his song, Some Gave All, that didn’t chart well, but fans found it and loved it.   He’ll be remembered for Achy, Breaky, but Some Gave All resonated with a very different audience, and they still love that song.

Many Love This Song

Yes, over the years many things about BRC have changed in about every way imaginable, but at that moment he was an impact player, be it for a very short time, but he was certainly original.

He owns the best selling debut album of all time, and that’s incredible.
