Every now and again a song comes out that is so popular that it can’t be played enough on the radio. And sometimes a landmark song comes out that announces a new musical way. That’s this song. Since about 1986 Country had been steadily trending more traditional with new stars and songs, but when Clint Black came out, with this album and song, things accelerated greatly. His debut song, Better Man was absolutely loved, but this song made it official, the NEO-Traditionalists were here and this is the flagship song. This song, much like Cruise by Florida Georgia Line many years later, unofficially began a new era (Bro Country at the time). This edgy, strong, and traditional song set in motion a new movement that would be ridden for years to come. The class of 1989 was very important in our history with Garth, Alan Jackson, and Clint Black leading the charge. This was a big #1, and at years end when Billboard magazine had its Hot Country Singles chart for 1989, Killin’ Time was the No. 2 song of the year behind his debut song, Better Man. This was a million seller and solidified Black and the leader of the new movement and sent him into a hit making orbit through the 1990’s. We were now going more traditional in a hurry and there was no turning back. This song is still loved and was a real pivotal song in our recent history.
