When I put this list together, one of the factors was the "love factor" of a song and that comes into play here. This gigantic song was important for every reason there is. First, it was a three week #1 as the first song to stay there that long in 7 years (Lookin' For Love - Johnny Lee). It was a Grammy Winner, and Song Of The Year from the CMA and the ACM, and it sold millions. It also solidified Travis as a big time hit maker as it got his second studio album off to an incredible start. But this song was absolutely loved by fans, to a degree that is very hard to explain. There were concerts where he played this song 2 or 3 times because of audience demands. It was written by two of Nashville's best songwriters (Paul Overstreet and Don Schlitz). It was based on a bedtime prayer from Schlitz to his young son. This song still, over 30 years later is still one of the most loved songs I have ever played on the radio, and did so for many years. Randy Travis was so incredibly important at this moment, as he was in the process of changing country music forever, recording big song after big song that fans loved. Huge hit and award winner. Play this on any jukebox at any pub, tavern or bar today, and watch people. This is the definition of a monster song.
