On Saturdays, unless our schedule doesn't allow (then we move it), we have a family night with games and hopefully new food! Just a fun way to try a new dish (mostly the kids) and get everyone in the kitchen cooking! This weekend, before playing a few rounds of Mario Party (our activity of choice), we made Beef and Broccoli.
Pretty easy to make, and we also did a small portion of chicken, which we liked a little better.
Here is what you will need:
Steak (your choice of, but I went with a sirloin that was on sale)
Corstarch
Garlic Powder
Broccoli
Onion
Soy Sauce
Brown Sugar
Ginger (fresh or powder)
Teriyaki *optional, see below*
Here's how I made it, toss about 1 lb steak with a mix of 2 TBSP of cornstarch and water with garlic (start with a 1/2 tsp then add more to taste as you go). Saute that to desired doneness, then add broccoli, and a little onion, no real measurement just whatever looks like enough, I guess. Let that cook down a little and make your sauce. Now you can use a pre-made teriyaki, but stir in corn starch so that it thickens after you add it to the dish. Or you can mix 2/3 cup of soy sauce with 2 TBSP brown sugar (adjust to taste), 1 TBS of corn starch, and some ginger (to taste). Once you have that to where you think it's going to taste good, pour it in and let it incorporate. Serve with rice or noodles, chopsticks optional!
