Another Country Music Star

For Season 25, "The Voice" is adding yet another Country singer to the ranks! Keith Urban will join the show this Spring as a Mega Mentor.

He already has some experience with the show in a way. He was an original coach when the show first began in Australia in 2011. He stuck around for 1 season. He also just performed on the finale of our American version back in December - so he must have impressed someone at the network since he is being brought back in such a big role in such a short amount of time.

If you are a fan of Keith Urban or "The Voice" - check it out!

The Worm Moon!

Working overnights, there're advantages and drawbacks. For example on the plus side, there's very little traffic during my commute to and from the station here. As for the downside, it's little things like my inability to stop by the store on my way out to pick up whatever I might need. My schedule is a bit different than that of anyone else in my life, too. I full heartedly love what I do and I'm certainly not complaining; I take the good with the bad.

With that, one of my favorite perks of working third shift is every chance I get to see a full moon. Lucky for us, there's one here for your Monday with something special happening in the 3 AM hour. Depending on when you come across this blog, you may have already missed it, but that's okay. To the naked eye of a casual stargazer, the moon should appear full for at least a night before and after. What you will miss, however, is the lunar eclipse. I'd go into detail on that and what exactly this Worm Moon is and means, but somebody who knows more about it than I already has. So, here's some further reading on March's full moon, if you're interested: Penumbral lunar eclipse March 24-25, 2024 (earthsky.org)

I'll cap this off by offering a thank you to everyone who's up keeping the world moving during the nighttime. Maybe you're a first responder, truck driver, healthcare professional, factory worker, or gas station attendant. For WQMX, I'm here with you live and local, all through the overnight supplying the tunes. I can certainly relate to some of the complaints we might carry being on the clock during these hours, but I'm sure to appreciate cool space occurrences and I hope you do too!

SW small Logo There are many reasons songs are important and why they make this list.  Reba was the number one female in country music for many years without any question.  She of course went on to superstardom that she still enjoys today.  Dozens of big country songs, tons of awards, TV shows, emcee work, stage, movies, concerts, singing at the Superbowl, and pop culture icon.  And it was all made possible by this little love song from 1980.  This song delivered Reba McEntire to us, even though this song only peaked at #8 on the charts.  It was her first real hit that got her noticed after a series of mis-fires for a few years, this one broke through.  Her first number one song would come a year or two later, (Can't Even Get The Blues) and then she was on her way.  Hard to think that she had released about 10 singles before this on various labels and albums since 1976.  Of course Reba had many songs after this that were far bigger hits, but this is the song that changed everything.  In short order, Reba would pass the other big stars of the day and emerge as a superstar, and it all can be walked right back to this little song that brought huge fame.
