OH YEEEAAAHHH!!!  Some things that I truly enjoy the most are Deals and Ice Cream... this covers both of those!

So DQ is going to offer you a free small, regular or dipped, cone with any purchase on Friday June 21st to celebrate the first day of Summer.  Oh and you can choose the classic Chocolate dipped, or the seasonal (and amazing sounding) Orange DREAMSICLE dipped!!

There is a minor catch, or two:  you have to buy something, and you have to download their app.  At participating locations only.

Never underestimate the power of clean clothes, especially for young kids that may not have the luxury that many of us don't think about until we "run out'.  Even then, for many of us it's as easy as walking to another room of our house and tossing a load into the washer and then the drier a little later.  While its a chore for many of us to do laundry, there are many families that have to save their money and then cart all of their laundry to and from a Laundromat when they can, if they can.

When it comes to kids, there have been programs and studies around the country that have shown that families who have had the opportunity to benefit from community or school based laundry programs have improved attendance and better focus which leads to more self esteem and better grades.  Medina is launching a kind of 'voucher' program through Garfield Elementary school with the help of local businesses and donations from residents.

The Warriors have been defeated.

The Warriors did not get the 'Three-peat' they had hoped for.

As a Cavs fan I'm pretty happy, aside from the injuries suffered by two of the greatest shooters in the league, of course.  I'm a fan of the sport of Basketball in general and while I support my favorite teams, I really enjoy watching a good, competitive contest rather than a blow-out or one-sided victory.  Could the series have ended another way had KD been healthy?  Sure.  Had Klay not gone down in Game 6?  Probably.  Those will be factors to reflect on for those that were not thrilled with the outcome of Game 6, but in the end, the Toronto Raptors are the NBA Champions and that's what the History books will show.  Injuries are a part of the game, just look at the Western Conference finals from the 2018 season... would the Warriors have beaten the Rockets to advance if CP3 didn't have to sit those last games?  We will never know.

I do hope for a full, speedy recovery for Klay and KD... and not just so I can 'Love to Hate' them for being as good as they are, but because whether you like them or not, they bring another level of excitement to the game when they are on the floor.

Congrats to our neighbors to THE NORTH for bringing home their first NBA Championship for not only the Franchise, but for ANY COUNTRY outside the USA.  Also, we can never let 'The North' forget that 'The North Coast' is the team that showed that the Warriors could be beaten.   Now bring on The Draft!!!

I saw this story and it reminded me of playing chess with my dad as a kid.  I remember him teaching me at my Gramma's house, and once I learned how to play, there was not a person I knew that I didn't ask to play.  It's been a long time since I've played chess at all, let alone with my dad since he lives in Florida now.  Being a kid from Cleveland that loved to play this great thinking game of strategy and consequences, I was surprised to find out that the World's Largest Collection of all things Chess is right up the road in my birthplace of Cleveland, Ohio... on the third floor of the Cleveland Public Library... and it's been there since the library opened in 1925!?!  Who Knew?!  Our friend's at News 5 Cleveland worte up this great article about the collection and some of the programs that are out there for young people to learn about Chess as well.

In case you didn't know, OHIO is FUN!

Well, the secret is out.  Since we live here it can be hard to appreciate all the cool things that the Buckeye State has to offer, but to folks that live in a way less-fun state (which is apparently most of them) I guess that makes Ohio a destination for fun!  A recent Survey by Wallethub.com has Ohio's "Nightlife" ranked in the Top 10, and in the Top 20 for "Entertainment and Recreation".  We knew all that already though, Right?  For more about how Ohio is better than most other places, CLICK to see the full results of the survey.

While this may not be on my personal 'short list' of wants for Father's Day, maybe your dad (or you yourself) likes this kind of stuff.  Chocolate Covered PICKLES will be available in Malley's Chocolates stores, while supplies last, starting this Friday June 14th.  If that doesn't sound like your ideal flavor combo, the legendary Northeast Ohio Chocolatiers will also be selling Chocolate Covered Grapes this weekend as well.  There will be no shipping option for the gherkins this year so you will have to stop into one of their nearly 2 dozen stores, and you can find one and get more info HERE

Some 'Hacks' for Pool Owners

I spent more than a few hours this past weekend cleaning and prepping the pool for Summer... and apparently just as long working on nice sunburn on my back.

Maintaining a pool can be a tedious task, as it only takes a couple of missed days of proper care to turn your backyard oasis into something that looks more like the Bayou.

Luckily, the internet is full of 'experts' that have helpful hacks, hints and tips to help with anything and everything, even pool cleaning.

Now, keep in mind that these methods and techniques are simply suggestions and not endorsed by or encouraged by your pools manufacturer or anyone associated with WQMX, but some folks swear by them and they may be helpful in some situations.  That said, you should always follow the Owner's Manual provided by the manufacturer for how to properly care for your pool, but if you have tried any of these and have had any luck, good or bad, feel free to leave a comment for others below!

When they aren't fighting crime, catching 'Bad Guys', or saving the world, its good to see that superheroes make good use of what little free time they have these days.  Wednesday was an exciting day for kids at Akron Children's Hospital here in The Rubber City as a group of masked and caped Do-Gooders ( and one BIG Green Guy) dropped in to see them... LITERALLY dropped in.  They washed a few windows as well.  The folks at Akron Children's must have a hotline to Heroes as they also hosted them Last Year, but it's always a special day for all that are present.  Keep it up ACH, we're very lucky to have you in our backyard!  WKYC TV-3 has Video and a nice write up for you HERE.

There are few place in these United States that have a High School Football Legacy like that of the Massillon Tigers of Washington High School.  I've lived about 7 minutes North of "Tiger Town", in Canal Fulton, for nearly 15 years and frequent the area often.  When that stadium lights up on a Friday Night and the sun starts to set, ltes just say there aren't many lines in the local stores and traffic is pretty light.  My first experience at a Massillon vs McKinley Football game was about 5 years ago - at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium - was unlike any high school game I have ever attended and could rival one at a decent sized College.  Its hard to explain the energy and passion dedicated to football, and most other sports, in Massillon unless you have seen it in person... Think "Friday Night Lights" (its a Movie and was a TV Series for you youngsters out there).  My kids have all played Basketball and Soccer against Massillon teams over the years and its always expected to be a tough, highly competitive match up and it rarely disappoints.

With all that said, there is so much more to the rich history of this Program that its not surprising that an event like this has been put together for the community to celebrate and enjoy what it means to the city and its people.  41 athletes have gone on to play at the Professional level and the hope is to have as many of the 23 that are still with us to be a part of the three days of festivities that will take place throughout the community July 11-13.

Once a Tiger, Always a Tiger.

If you're participating in Akron's curbside Recycling Program, well I hope you are doing it right!  Starting this week, if  you see someone nosing around in your Recycling Bin at the curb, you have nothing to worry about... as long as there are no "contaminants" in yours.  Things like yard waste, food, plastic bags and several other things that are a big no-no in the recycle bin can get you a warning for your first and second offences, and a third violation will result in your bin being taken away.  Officials from 'Keep Akron Beautiful' say it isn't a punishment and won't affect most residents, but repeat offenders and those intentionally using the bins for things like construction waste are the reason for this new system.  For more on the new program, CLICK HERE for more from News 5 Cleveland.
