Not afraid anymore

When I was growing up...let's say 12 and younger, I was afraid...DREADED really, going to the dentist. Now as an adult I don't really mind. I don't think anyone is like "YAY!!!! TIME TO GO TO THE DENTIST!!!!!!!" - and that for sure isn't me. However, my appointments last about 45 minutes to an hour and I am able to just go in for my cleaning and exam and then take off.

Luckily at 36 years old, I have never had a cavity (knock on whatever you want to). The only thing I HAVE had was my Wisdom Teeth taken out in High School. In fact that is the ONLY surgery I have EVER had on any part of my body!

I bring this up because I have a dentist appointment Tuesday afternoon. Hopefully it will be as smooth as all the ones before it!

Did she or didn't she?

While many of you may have been at Blossom watching Eric Church, I was seeing a different show. I went to see "Lizzie: The Musical" at The Knight Stage in Akron. A "different" take on the life and case of Lizzie Borden. It was sad, dark, at times hilarious, and overall pretty good. It looks into the motives she may have had to kill her father and step mother.

As you may remember, she was aquitted at trial in 1892. She lived quietly the rest of her life in Fall River, MA. Did she really kill them or not? I think she did and got away with murder. What do you think? If you'd like to see an interesting take on the case of the Borden family of Fall River, MA, I suggest you see this show. They have one more weekend (Friday and Saturday night) at the Knight Stage in Akron.

Last chance for Eric Church tix

Eric Church will be at Blossom Music Center Saturday night with Ashley McBryde as his opener. WQMX has one more way for you to win tickets into the show this weekend!!! Go to our Instagram page and follow the instructions to get yourself and a friend entered to win the tickets!

Gotta be at least 18 and you only have until Friday morning at 9AM to get entered! Hurry up and good luck from WQMX. If you already have tix or are lucky enough to win, enjoy the show!

Be sure to check in with Joe after the show Saturday night at 11:00 for the Eric Church Concert Encore!

Wednesday was the Summer solstice...the longest day of the year. Around here, sunset was just after 9:00 after a sunrise just before 6:00. These next couple days the sun will continue to set late like that and then start to get earlier until four days before Christmas!!! :( I always say June 21st is one of my least favorite days of the year for that reason - I LOVE late sunsets.

I chose the picture for this blog because it reminds me a lot of a sunset along the shores of Lake Erie which are AMAZING!!! To me, it's a shame the latest sunsets of the year are so early in the Summer. Either way, find ways to enjoy your Summer!

I finally made a decision!

I told you at the beginning of the month about buying a new ceiling fan for my back porch. Well, I have also been looking for new light fixtures for my kitchen and near my front door by my coat closet. After visiting four stores over the last three weeks, I finally bought some fixtures Tuesday evening! I bought one for the center of my kitchen, one above my kitchen sink, and the one near my coat closet. Now I wish I lived in a house that took a fixture like the one in the picture...I think that would mean I live in the Paris Opera House in "Phantom of the Opera"! LOL.

Now, I have to get an electrician scheduled to redo some electrics and get everything installed. Then I'll have light!!! (not that there isn't now...just better light)

I remember being in High School when Top Thrill Dragster opened in 2003. My friends and I waited 3 hours for our 1st time on the 30 second ride. We loved it immediately! Then two years ago came the accident that shut it down. Now, Cedar Point is working on reimagining the attraction for 2024.

What do you think they are doing with it? At this point...I've gotten too far removed from amusement parks to speculate like we loved to do when we were 16. I still love the rides like I did then, they just don't love me LOL! It never gets old to wait for the announcement from the park and see what they have come up with trying to top themselves to keep Cedar Point as one of the premier parks in the world!

If you still ride the rides on a regular basis...ENJOY whatever they come up with!

If you haven't seen it...GO!

I was getting ready to head to Country Fest Friday afternoon when I got a text from my mom asking "Will you PLEASE go see The Little Mermaid in 3D with me tonight?" Since the word please was in all caps, I said I would since this was an unusual request of her. I really didn't have much of a desire to see it but I figured I'd humor her.

Of course I have seen the original cartoon version from 1989 (my mom hasn't..just the show at Disney World). While I like the movie, it's not my favorite of Disney's by any stretch. What I do like about the original is Sebastian and his song "Under The Sea", as well as Pat Carroll as Ursula...her performace was EPIC!!! So I wasn't sure what to expect with this version, but kept an open mind.

I thought it was GREAT!!! Halle Bailey NAILED Ariel. Sebastian and Scuttle are funny just like in the original. Then there's Melissa McCarthy as Ursula. WOW!!! She was just as good as Pat Carroll in my opinion. Not like she would or could replace her...but McCarthy's portrayal is on point! If you haven't seen this version yet...GO! Even if you don't have kids to take, it is enjoyable for sure!

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood have been married for 18 years (since 2005)! That's an eternity in Hollywood! It has now come to light that Trisha really wanted to legally change her last name to Brooks, but Garth said he didn't want her to.

It is quite unusual in our society not to change your last name when you get married, but sometimes people don't. I have a friend whose wife didn't change her name after the wedding because of the hassle of all the government documents that need changed.

Come to think of it..."Trisha Brooks" does sound a lot different than "Trisha Yearwood".

You're OFFICIALLY old if...

I saw this list on the internet and HAD to share it because I found it so funny! Apparently if you remember these five things in your life, you are now OFFICIALLY old!! Before you go and make fun of me for calling anyone old, keep in mind at 36...I remember every one of these...LOL

1. Using a pencil to rewind a cassette tape. (many kids now don't even know what these are)

2. Cars with two keys: One for the doors and one for the ignition. (how DID we deal with that, lol)

3. Yelling at someone or being yelled at to get off the internet so the phone could be used. (again, how DID we deal?!!! AHHH, the dial up sound right?!)

4. Printing your directions from Mapquest.

5. Looking in the PHYSICAL newspaper for movie times. (now many theaters are closing due to popularity of streaming)

How the world has changed, right?!

Finding a new use for something old

Growing up in the 90s as I did, I have very fond memories of spending Summer afternoons at Sea World in Aurora. Since the amusement park closed 15 years ago and the water park closed almost 10 years ago there have been plans to try and repurpose the land. Now, the city of Aurora is considering buying a large chunk of the Sea World side of the poperty and turning it into a public park.

Preliminary plans show a pool with lockers and concessions, various pavilions, a dock or two on Geauga Lake, a beach, and maybe a restaurant in the old Sea World aquarium building. I think this is an interesting concept to put that site back to use. Will it come to fruition? Will it work? What do you think? Time will tell.

Read the article about it from The Plain Dealer here.
