Although I've been super excited about the Bosom Buddies Concert tonight, I cannot wait to watch the new season of American Horror Story that's coming out today as well! This new season is called American Horror Story: NYC, and each trailer promises that this season will be unlike any season we've seen before! Although I've been a bit skeptical of the series since last season was so bad, the American Horror Stories anthology series on Hulu gives me hope that this season could be better than expected! Can't wait to see what's in store!
This weekend I went back to Missouri one last time to pack up my apartment and move back to Ohio for good. Although it was extremely hard work to get all the boxes packed and hit the road, I'm so excited to finally close that chapter in my life! It still doesn't feel totally real, being back where I was a year ago and that I don't have to take the 10 hour drive anymore, but I'm sure when it hits it'll be like a breath of fresh air!
I can't wait to unpack, unwind, and settle back where I belong!
It's finally Friday! My first week here at WQMX as a full time personality has been an absolute blast, and I'm looking forward to enjoying the beautiful fall colors and Halloween shopping! I hope you have a fabulous weekend and enjoy the autumn breeze!
Hello everyone! I thought I would start something new: Trailer Thursdays, where I review some of the biggest trailers for movies, television shows, video games, and even music videos!
I thought I'd start things off with a trailer that's getting a lot of attention as of late (and for good reason) The Super Mario Bros. Movie! As a huge Nintendo fan, I was extremely excited to see this teaser, but also very wary of what may come. Video game movies can be very hit or miss, with more misses than hits if you catch my drift. But for the most part, I was pleasantly surprised with this teaser! The animation is stunning, the little bit we saw feels very authentic to the story, and Jack Black does a great job as Bowser!
The only gripe the internet and I all have in common is this: Chris Pratt as Mario. The little bit of what we heard was underwhelming to say the least. I understand that if we hear the voice we know and love from the video game for a full length movie, it may get annoying over time. But a voice ala Bob Hoskins would also be appropriate. Hopefully it gets better as we see more! Other than that, it's definitely worth getting hyped up for!
If you haven't seen the trailer yet, make sure you check it out below!
Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, and a tradition I try to do each year is watch a Halloween or scary movie each day all month long! This year, I've been watching a few flicks I've never seen before, and I thought I'd share five Halloween movies I wish I'd watched sooner! (In no particular Order)
1. Psycho
A horror classic from Hitchcock himself, this thriller still leaves you on the edge of your seat over 60 years later! From the beginning, to the classic shower scene, and the mystery that unfolds after, the acting, effects, and music turn this slasher into a killer classic. I have no clue why it took me this long to watch a film so iconic already, but I'm sure glad I did!
2. Trick 'r Treat
This film takes different stories on a Halloween night and brings them together into one twisted tale with shocks and surprises at every turn! Horror fans of all different kinds can find something to love in this cult classic. This film makes sure no stone is left unturned when it comes to storytelling, and leaves you as satisfied as a kid eating their first halloween candy!
3. Donnie Darko
Another film that makes sure every detail plays a part, Donnie Darko follows the October of the titular character, and a friend no one else can see. The film really paints a realistic picture of being that kid in high school, and what it feels like when the rest of the world just doesn't seem to understand you. Plus the soundtrack is on point, I've been listening to Tears For Fears at least once a day since I've seen this flick!
4. Elvira: Mistress of The Dark
Warning: You might want to put your younger kids away from this one! Although I haven't seen a lot of Elvira's Midnight Macabre (unfortunately it was a bit before my time) I can appreciate the witty humor and campy vibe of this cult classic! I am a huge fan of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and this movie will give you all the laughs, for the same reasons, without going to a midnight showing! (Although that's still totally acceptable!)
5. Silence of The Lambs
Although this one does not center around the occult or the macabre, as a slasher movie fan, this is everything I've wanted in a horror movie AND MORE! Jodie Foster is incredible as Clarice, and plays off an equally amazing and stunning performance from Anthony Hopkins as Hanniabl Lecter. Their chemistry together on screen as cautious allies (for the time being) is one for the ages, and like Psycho, will still leave you on your seat despite how long it's been (that last line? Iconic.)
Obviously I missed the boat on these films and they might already be your favorite. But I'm so glad that I gave these a watch, and I'm so excited to keep watching as the month rolls on!
Hello there!
My name is Rachel, and this is my FIRST EVER BLOGPOST for WQMX! I am so excited to be joining such a wonderful team, and I'm so pumped to play all of the best country music just for you!
A little bit about me: as you might have seen on Facebook, I was born and raised in Central Ohio and moved up to Akron to study Communications (with a focus on Media Studies) at UA! I fell in love with radio after I joined their college station, and got a part time job right here at WQMX! After I graduated, I took a full time position at another station in Missouri, but I missed Ohio so much while I was gone. Moving somewhere new with no friends or family was a real bummer. Thankfully I got this job as the night gal back at WQMX!
Other things you should know about me: My favorite color is purple, I have a cat named Pebbles who I adore (and a dog named Sif who I tolerate ((I kid, she's a bean))), and my favorite country artist is a tie between Dolly Parton, Kelsea Ballerini, and Jon Pardi!
Once again, I'm so excited to be back, and I'm ready to roll when you are!
