Please join me in th 20th annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk this Sunday oct. 6th.
We start at Lock 3 downtown Akron. Registration is at 8am, the walk steps off at 10am.
I remember growng up on North Hill and my best girlfriends mother ws a master at make the wonderful Buckeye treat!
A blend of confectioners sugar and Jif peanut butter, rolled masterfully, then dipped in chocolate. She would make dozens
and we would sneak in the kitchen and eat them up! A recent poll of Americans (believe it or not) hailed the Buckeye candy
(named for our state tree) as their top choice. More than 50%! A far second was ice cream, followed by donuts!
How about you?
For those a bit macob, you can wed on Halloween at the Akron Civic Theatre.
There are some stipulations, so you will want to read up, but what a cool backdrop!
You must obtain a marriage license prior to event, you must pay cash ( $25) for those who live in the court's (Summit Co)
jurisdiction, and it is first come first serve as appointments are needed. All this must be completed before the October 31st
date. Oh, and yes, you can come in costume!
Josh Turner's tour bus crashed near Paso Robles in California. The bus reportedly veered off the highway
and went down an embankment. One person was fatally injured with 7 others going to the hospital. Josh
was not on this bus. A spokesman for Josh Turner said the family is devastated. The fatality was a 14 year
verteran with his team running sound. The rest of the tour for September has been postponed.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all involved.
Mocktails you ask? Non alcoholic beverages that have game!
Listen to this one. A green concoction that includes Seedlip's Garden 108, cucumber, lemon, and elderflower!
Now that sounds refreshing. Many bars and restaurants across the country are embracing this idea of no alcohol drinks
that go way beyond the old Shirley Temple! What a great idea. Socializing is big part of most of our lives. For those
in recovery and not drinking alcohol, or those that just choose not to, this is a grown up sophisticated take on drinking!
I do not know of any establishments here in Northeast Ohio jumping on the wagon...if you do, let me know!
It's time! Halloweekends open at Cedar Point September 14 and run through October 17th!
Fun for the kiddos Saturday and Sunday, and Hant at Halloweekends runs select nights during that time period.
It's great unscary fun for the little ones, just be mindful no masks or costumes are allowed inside the park!
Birthdays!
When we were young, we looked forward to them each and every year! It;s YOUR day. Presents, cake, family!
Today I felt as though it was a party all day long!
As we get older, we start to want to ignore them. After 25, there really are no real milestone we wish to achieve!
And 65 is not one of them for me! But while I still struggle a bit with age, I do feel blessed each and every time (since 2004)
opening Facebook and seeing so many well wishes bestowed on me. It truly makes my day. Like when you used to get actual cards!
Seriously though, today, as usual was no different and I truly love that someone took a moment to say Happy Birthday.
And to my longest and dearest friend, Gina, who made me cry with her post. We have been friends for 51 years! First besties.
That is when you can look at a birthday and feel good. So to all my Nine-niners, which I found out to be many, happy birthday yourself!!
One of my all time favorite fairs is the Wayne County Fair! I think I am partical due to living in Wooster for more than 4 years and still calling it my second home.
Even though we have a fair here in Summit County, I was a city girl and had no idea what the fair was really about until I moved to Millersburg.
From there I moved up to Wooster and discovered their great event. The have added buildings and events since I lived thee, but have always
managed to snag some great musical entertainment! This year is no different. Scotty McCreery is Sunday Sept. 8 Roots & Boots ( Sammy Kershaw, Aaron Tippon, Collin Raye) Mon. Sept 9
and Randy Houser Tues. Sept. 10!
The 170th Wayne County Fair gets underway This Saturday!
I suppose debating who has the best chicken sandwich in the land is a better way to spend time on social media than
bashing one or the other political party! Popeye's seems to be the culprit by unveiling their new chicken sandwich which
set off a fire storm between the fast food giants! Mostly Chik-fil-a, self procalimed supreme in the chicken sandwich world.
Everyone started chiming in including the famed New Yorker, to Bon Appetit magazine!! Wow! Who knew.
I have not tried Popeye's new creation which includes a brioche bun, my favorite!! So I cannot make a claim yet.
More to come....
