Least Popular NFL Teams

Written by

ESPN asks NFL players which teams they would LEAST like to play for in the league. The athletes have good reasons for wanting to play for some teams and not wanting to play for others.

State tax rates can affect these preferences, as can the local weather and the media market. Big cities offer more advantages to being famous. Also, players don’t want to play on bad teams – or teams run by bad management teams.

So, the question ESPN posed to the players was this… “The only way I’d play for _____ is if they doubled my salary.”

Here’s a rundown of the top five teams the players listed:

5.Green Bay Packers – 6 percent: While the team wins, the cold weather and tiny town atmosphere turns lots of players off. Click Read More

for 4 through 1

4.Jacksonville Jaguars – 9 percent: The Jags haven’t been able to put together a winning season since George Bush was president … George W. Bush. Now, Florida doesn’t have a state income tax, but even that’s not enough to make some players want to go there.

3.Cleveland Browns – 16 percent: Cleveland is kind of like Jacksonville without the swimming pool. Perpetual losers and bad weather.

2.Buffalo Bills – 19 percent: It’s about as far north on the planet as Green Bay, but the team hasn’t been winning for a long, long time.

1.Oakland Raiders – 23 percent: This team has suffered from crappy ownership and team management. With no hope of winning, players are reluctant to go to battle in front of the Black Hole, regardless of salary. (WallStCheatSheet)
