Wrasslin' Thursday

This Saturday is going to be an interesting one...  As the WWE takes Crown Jewel to Saudi Arabia for a 1pm start. (Thank goodness Ohio State plays at Night.)

There is a lot of alignment that could play out at this one.

Seth Rollins defends his World Heavyweight Championship vs. Drew McIntyre.  You can be there will be some interference with this one.  Seth Rollin's will return for Monday Night Rollins Title in hand.

Rhea Ripley defends her Women's World Championship in the Fatal 5-Way vs. Nia Jax vs. Raquel Rodriguez vs. Shayna Baszler vs. Zoey Stark.  The truth is all these women could win the title.  I think Rhea retains but only with a little help from DomDom...  Mami is always on top.

Roman Reigns defends his Universal Championship vs. LA Knight.  I would love to see LA put an end to Roman's Title Run but I do not see him losing gold at anything other than Mania, Summerslam or Rumble.  YEAHHHH!!!!

Rey Mysterio defends his US Championship  vs. Logan Paul – This match makes a title Prime of the taking and think old Logan Paul tastes good...

Cody Rhodes vs. Damian Priest – I think Cody beats Priest but pays for it with Judgement Day making him pay the price.  And I don't think the loss will stop Senor Money In The Bank from maybe cashing in...

My Top Ten: Game Shows!

Game shows are a staple of American television with many programs spanning multiple hosts and decades of airing. There have been hundreds, if not thousands through the years which could be grouped into the game show genre, but for the purposes of this blog we'll mostly just consider the more traditional ones. Think Jeopardy, not AFV.

People enjoy games shows for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it's just some good old-fashioned entertainment mixed in with a healthy dose of humor. Maybe it's the educational aspect and challenging yourself as if you were on the show. Maybe there is a larger-than-life host oozing character. For me, on that note, I must give a big shoutout to the host with the most, Steve Harvey. His suits are the primary reason I watch Family Feud! What a legend.

Alright, so the new topic of this blog is ranking Steve Harvey's top ten Family Feud outfits.... just kidding! Let's get into my top ten game shows!

10 Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

9 Let's Make a Deal

8. Press Your Luck

7. Deal or No Deal

6. Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?

5. Cash Cab

4. Wheel of Fortune

3. Jeopardy!

2. The Price is Right

1. Family Feud

So, what do you think? Did I forget any great game shows? How does my order compare to yours? There're certainly no wrong opinions when it comes to this stuff, and I appreciate you letting me share my takes on these topics here with you. For game shows to stand the test of time as television trends have shifted exemplifies their significance in our culture, and I don't think they'll be going away anytime soon.

Side note: What show would you be on if you had the choice of any? For me, that's a really tough question. I think I'd do best at a trivia show like Cash Cab or Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? and worst at The Price is Right, specifically. I don't shop for groceries too often and would be shocked at the prices of certain stuff. Family Feud would probably be the most fun, and Jeopardy would be just awesome. I guess it's a toss-up!

It starts tonight!

Tonight is the beginning of the 2023-24 season fo the Cavs! They start on the road in Brooklyn against the Nets. The home opener is this Friday hosting the Oklahoma City Thunder. Let's hop they do just as good as last year, and then some! The Cavs made it to the playoffs only to be eliminated in the first round by New York. This year, let's shoot for at least the conference semifinals!!! (I'd of course love to them go farther than that...but I'm thinking realistically)

Plus, as we are ready to get the season started...news that Myles Garrett of the Browns has purchased a minority stake in the Cavs as well! That is so cool! Happy NBA season and GO CAVS!!!!

The Newest Member Of The Grand Ole Opry!

Last night, Jon Pardi became the newest member of The Grand Ole Opry!

He says he's looking forward to being an active member of the esteemed institution.

"Once you become part of it, there's more learning to do.I'm excited. I'm excited to do more partnerships with music and there's always opportunities for the Opry and us to do more shows together."

Jon was invited to become a member of the Opry by Alan Jackson earlier this year during his performance at Stagecoach.

Congratulations!

They aren't leaving Broadway Alone...

Country as a genre is one you learn from the past...

That is why Lainey Wilson's Watermelon Moonshine might remind of you Strawberry Wine.  Cole Swindell took a tried and true #1 in Heads Carolina and put his spin on it.  Luke Combs took Fast Car and turned it into Gold a 2nd time.

What do you they say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Mimickery is the most sincere showing of flattery.  With Country Music following in those footsteps.  It's only fitting that the bar business comes along with it.  Especially on Broadway in Nashville.  Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert and many more have local spots in Nashville.

With the recently opened Garth Brooks Friends in Low Places, Eric Church's Cheif's opening in the near future, Luke Combs has allegedly been in talks, Morgan Wallen is opening a spot, Hank Williams Jr. Boogie Bar just solidified an address on Broadway....  needless to say the blue print is there in country music.  The recipe is pretty simple.

Build a catalog...

Build a Brand/Career/Fanbase....

Don't take any flack...

Surround yourself with good folks personally, musically and financially.

Get a Bar.

Rinse and repeat.

I know that other artists have done it all before getting their hands dirty making that recipe.  Blake Shelton's Ol' Red is branching out with various establishments/venues across the country.  Jason Aldean opened his 2nd Location in Gatlinburg this past year. Chase Rice has locations of Welcome to the Farm (1 in Cleveland) and others have establishments outside of Tennessee.  Proving you don't have to be on Broadway.  It will be interesting to see which artists will succeed and which artists will be getting establishments in the future on Broadway or other locations.

WYNN - Country Music Memory Lane - Trace Adkins

SW small Logo Trace Adkins is a very interesting artist.  His huge baritone voice with incredible presence seems on the surface more fitting for a far more classic kind of music.  But with that said, his demeanor, song choices and who he is made him a natural for a great run on the country charts for a good long while.  He may be one of the most underrated artists we have had.  Without question he had great success, but his talent, image and song choices were all right on the money with 90's and early 2000's country.

 First Real Hit Song

His career has been filled with ups and downs, good times and bad.  Music, and a world outside of music, he is one of these artists that has done it all.  Music, tons of TV, movies, voice over work, TV commercials, and charity work too. In fact, his list of movies and TV is far more extensive than you may think, he has made a nice career for himself with that outside of country music.  He has an incredibly loyal fan base that love HIM as much as his music. When I first came to WQMX there was this woman listener that would call in and tell us where she was going that weekend to see him perform, and the list was extensive and many venues a great distance away.  Plus she was part of a large group that was doing the same thing - weekly.

First Number One - Made Him a Star

Adkins is not hard to like. That big, warm voice that sounds good singing about any song you throw at him.  I featured him in my Vocalist Supreme Series here a few months ago.  Adkins has the amazing ability to make the song his own. I remember years ago I heard him sing in person, Hank Williams Sr's,  Your Cheatin' Heart at a tribute and he made it sound like the song was written by him, and of course it wasn't.

That Voice  -  #4 Hit

His first album, Dreamin' Out Loud in 1996 was as good of a debut album as you can have.  It had a bunch of hit songs on it, was sung with extreme confidence and sold a ton.  As a result he was named the ACM Top New Male Vocalist of 1997.  He has won a few major awards including a couple for Hillbilly Bone with Blake Shelton, a song that I love and I'm not real big on duets.  During the course of his chart run there were some great albums and singles and there were some that didn't catch on.  He has been with a few different record companies and had some well documented personal setbacks that didn't derail his career, just made it a bit more challenging in the long run.

This Is The Stuff He Does Best

But in the end, he sold about 12 million albums, had 4 number one songs and for many years was a staple on the country charts. His live stage shows were also very popular with his fans and always seemed to be in the midst of other great artists in touring.  Adkins showed up in the middle of a very competitive decade for country music, and it was tough to get noticed for many, But Adkins did and had a great run.

Amazing Song - Will Be Played Forever  #1

It's that voice.  That incredibly big, warm, distinctive voice that could sing the most fun and funny songs you can imagine. Or the most touching, and powerful ballads of life you can think of.  His vocal versatility is hard to match, still is  -  and so was his pure speaking and singing voice.

 Big Song - #1

One Of My Favorite Duets As Well

An El Camino Type of Day!

The motorcycle is all but put away for the season, but it's prime time to be driving my little classic truck. It's that perfect temperature this week where I need no climate controls aside from the crank windows, and I am digging it! I've got a built 350 engine in Eleanor, and I would consider the range around the mid-60's to be ideal operating temperature for that vehicle, all things considered.

With it being Elky season, I've been ripping her around big time, having the time of my life. I'm constantly grateful for how lucky I am to have such a nice example of one of my lifelong dream cars, but that doesn't mean I'm going to baby it in the garage and have an episode if it gets rained on or scuffed minorly. I bought it to drive and would nearly daily drive it if I could afford to give her all that plus gas she sucks down. Call it an iron horse with a drinking problem!

I want to end this with a friendly reminder to please be careful out on the roads. Keep an eye out for deer, pedestrians, and motorcycles especially. Take care, be safe, and thanks for reading!

The best time of year to be a dentist

We are getting into the time of year when kids are going to be chowing down on an overload of candy! Between Trick or Treat and the stockings at Christmas, there will be A LOT of candy consumed over the next three months.

Trick or Treat at my house is this Saturday. I still have to go buy my candy to pass out for this year. I would LOVE to be the house that gives out the full-size bars...but I work in radio - can't afford that! lol. So I get a couple mixed bags of the fun sizes filled with candy that I like of course - that way if I don't get many kids coming by my house, I'll eat some of it and maybe bring some into wok as well.

Either way, this is the best time to be a dentist! A lot of appointments made to fix the damage of all that candy! haha
