Merle Haggard died yesterday, which was his 79th birthday. He had 38 country chart-toppers over an amazing career. In 1977 he was inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, and in 1994 he was 

made a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, which calls him “With the arguable exception of Hank Williams, 

the single most influential singer-songwriter in country music.”

He'd been ill on and off over the past year and had spent the last few weeks in hospice care.

Florida Georgia Line’s hit song "Cruise" has been certified diamond and is the first country song to achieve that feat.

Diamond means it reached 10 times platinum status- that is the equivalent of selling 10 million songs. The song has 

been streamed more than 155 million times.

More details about Keith Urban's new album, Ripcord, are starting to come out.

Last week it was announced that Pitbull and he will collaborate on the record, but in a recent interview, he let it slip 

that Carrie Underwood is also on the record. Ripcord drops on May 6th.

Luke Bryan is expanding his line with Cabela's outdoor stores. The new line is called HFE -- short for "Huntin', Fishin' and Lovin' Every Day," which happens to be the name of his latest single. The line includes 

sweatshirts, T-shirts, hats and more.

Cole Swindell scores his fifth number-one this week on the Mediabase chart with “You Should Be Here.”

His previous number-ones are “Chillin’ It,” “Hope You Get Lonely Tonight,” “Ain’t Worth the Whiskey” and “Let Me See Ya Girl.” 

Cole also co-wrote number-ones for Luke Bryan (“Roller Coaster”) and Thomas Rhett (“Get Me Some of That”). “You Should Be Here” is the lead 

title single of his next album, out May 6th.

Jake Owen has been touring the country in his Love Bus and now he is talking details about his new album. “Real Life” 

was Jake’s first single from the upcoming project, but he says it won’t make the final cut when the album is released thi

s summer. “American Country Love Song” is the current single. It’s more in line with what he’s released before, which is 

good for fans and him.

He says, “I kind of went through a spot there just personally and everything with a lot in my life, and it kind of just flipped

 a switch for me to kind of revert back to some things that worked for me.” Jake is thinking July for a tentative release.

Jason Aldean won his first Entertainer of the Year award at the 51st annual ACM Awards Sunday night, and it was a 

big night for Chris Stapleton.

Chris was the lead winner, taking home six trophies, including Male Vocalist, New Male Vocalist, Song of the Year for 

“Nobody to Blame” and Album of the Year for Traveller. In the latter two categories, Chris got awards as both an artist 

and producer. His half-dozen award haul ties an ACM record previously set by Garth Brooks and Faith Hill.

Miranda Lambert won her seventh consecutive Female Vocalist of the Year award, breaking the record for most wins in 

the category. She shares Vocal Event of the Year for “Smokin’ and Drinkin’” with Little Big Town, who won their fourth 

Vocal Group of the Year award.
