There's a new vehicle line that has been announced, and it's got a lot of people on the edge of their seats. At this point, it probably comes as no surprise that this will be another EV brand, but this one comes with some heritage.
I'm describing the recently revealed Scout Motors, a re-launch of the once iconic automaker, now a part of the Volkswagen company. They've introduced to the world a four-door truck and an SUV, both on the same platform. These electric siblings seem to be a response to the offerings from the likes of Rivian, but there's also some major off-roader appeal like that of a Wrangler or Bronco.
This Scout revival is big news in the automotive community with enthusiasts raving over the design and features, and from what I've seen, public reception is overwhelmingly positive. Before I share my own opinions, let me toss it over to an article that further describes what's going on with these new EV's: MotorWeek
I think they're good-looking rides, and I appreciate the retro inspired styling. I believe we're collectively moving in the right direction, away from the indistinguishable post-recession blobs with no heart or soul. I want to see some bright colors, innovative features that take a step outside the box like the Silverado EV's mid-gate, and an overall departure from the blandness.
There're a few things I don't like about the Scouts, though. I'm never a fan of crew cab trucks, and I also really prefer a 2-door SUV. The only configurations we've heard about miss the mark with me, resultingly. I'm also not sold on EV's in general, either. Then there's the huge size of these, the big price tag that's sure to come even before inflated value from demand, and that gaudy infotainment screen too.
How do you feel about this comeback?
Regardless, expect to see a new Scout out on the road sometime somewhat soon.
