Skip Ewing  - Burnin' A Hole In My Heart - 1988 -  (Album - The Coast Of Colorado)

SW small Logo Skip Ewing had some hits in the late 1980's and this album was a great success.  I felt Ewing was going to have a nice run as he was/is a gifted award winning song writer.  But timing is everything sometimes, and country was shifting quickly in the years he showed up, and this album was the crown jewel of his solo career.  And this album is a total jewel.  This was his highest charting song as it went to #3, but I feel it was not his most popular song. The Gospel According To Luke off the same album was a song that listeners loved even though it only made it to #10.  His next album was not the success this one was, but the #5 hit It's You Again was a song I absolutely loved on it.  Could be the sudden avalanche of huge stars was too big, and if so, he wasn't the only one left behind there.  Country shifted mightily and swiftly in those couple years and the new traditionalists were here and taking center stage.  But this song was a hit and it's just a darn good song.  Ewing wrote a bunch of songs for others and is still writing songs. Very talented then and now, and today he still mentors young songwriters and is still recording new music.  Take a listen to these few songs if you're just learning of him, or if it's been a while.  He's worth discovering -  and The Coast Of Colorado is absolutely worth owning.  It's a quiet masterpiece.
