First Mow of The Year

I mowed my lawn for the first time today. Mowing the lawn was a chore I thoroughly enjoyed as a kid, it's great exercise, it gets you outside, and it's extremely rewarding seeing how much nicer everything instantly looks. I have never in my adult life lived anywhere that had a lawn to mow, I was either in an apartment building with no yard or somewhere where lawncare was included. But now I live in a house with a yard, and I love it, but I also don't have a mower. So after borrowing one from a friend, I hopped to it and it was wonderful. I had to wait till today because Ohio weather did its thing and made it cold and rainy after it was nice for a bit. Today it was just cold, so it was actually a pretty nice experience. Can't wait to keep my lawn flamingos happy for the rest of the summer.

Shame Is The Name of The Game

If you have played sports, have a child that does or even perused the Internet in the past 20 years...

You have probably caught a parent(s) acting crazy.  Fighting, arguing or worse.  I was always around sports as a kid.

Baseball was my primary sport.  My son is playing soccer currently and we travel a lot, so I get to see a bunch of different areas parents and refs(umps).

This weekend we played at Cedar Point Outdoor Sports Center which is a pretty nice setup.  15+ Fields set up for baseball but soccer fields can be placed on them depending on age groups.

At one point there was a lightning warning and everyone in the park - 15 fields x 2 teams is 30 teams of at least 9...   270 players plus probably 100 players in batting cages and waiting for their next game.   All the parents and workers had to evacuate.   It was not fun...

So some parents were angry, some more than others...  The Refs threatened to Eject a number of fans...  it made me think of this new rule in New Jersey.

I give all the props and accolades to umpires, refs, coaches and whoever is working with our youth creating good sports.

This new rule may make rowdy parents in the spotlight....

Kolby Cooper's Grand Ole Opry Debut

This was the subject of my "Country Quiz" today, Kolby Cooper's Grand Ole Opry Debut. He made it in September of last year, but the Opry just published a cool, behind the scenes video of his debut. I love these because you get to know a little bit more about these newer artists and you also feel their excitement about stepping into the circle for the first time! Working so hard to get to that moment and you can watch Kolby share it with his wife and daughters as he explains that two of his biggest dreams growing up was to play country music and be a father. He also explains why he chose to sing "Stars Fall Down" for his debut.

I am not the only one...am I?

When I get home from work, I eat breakfast (after hopefully going to the gym) and then get ready to go to bed after a little TV. Sometimes after eating breakfast and getting interested in what I'm watching, I get quite comfortable. So much so that I will often say "screw it! I'm sleeping here on the couch!" lol. It happens more than I'd like to admit. It just feels like it's so many stairs to climb up to bed and I have just totally lost the interest in making that MILES-LONG journey!!!

Thankfully, my mom and I had dinner with our financial advisor on Friday night, and found out she will do the same thing! I'll tell you, I honestly felt myself let out a silent sigh of relief now knowing I know at least one other person who feels the same struggle! haha

Maybe I should consider moving my bed into the living room? Sounds like a perfect idea to me!

Scream Day

It's Scream Day! Sure, it's a day probably intended for the act of screaming, but I'd prefer to focus on the film franchise of the same name, Scream.

I got into the franchise a few years ago, watching the original trilogy and the fourth film back to back before Scream V came out. I loved the films overall, and have been a huge fan of the series ever since! It's crazy to think there was a point in my life where I avoided horror films in general like the plague, now slasher films are some of my favorites to watch!

Just like Eric, I thoroughly enjoyed the last Scream installment, up until the final act. The killer reveal is always a surprise, but sometimes it's something you didn't see coming in a bad way. Instead of a shock like a surprise party, its a flyball coming toward your face out of nowhere. Regardless, it was definitely a love letter to long time fans and very very fun.

Celebrate Scream day by watching your favorite Scream film (Or a movie marathon)!

WYNN - BROWNS - Now What?

SW small Logo Been a while since we've talked Browns, but the draft is over, free agency too for the most part and it's time to start thinking about what's next.  Will this year be better? And the answer, as it stands today is  - yes.

The Browns are thinking Superbowl with the Watson contract and other key players in their prime. Probably an over reach, because there is NO LOGICAL reason today to think they have made the moves this off season that makes us worlds better.  But we'll see as it plays out.  The draft  - today -  looks better than many could have thought.

Social media sites and the Browns have been deflecting some issues and that's troubling.  They're talking about the offense, how great Watson is going to be, this new receiver and that new speedster and all that's fine. They want NO real part of discussing the problems the Browns have which are defense, special teams, roster depth, and in-game decisions. The aforementioned are issues, but I'm not so sure they see it that way.

There is EVERY LOGICAL reason to think that Watson will play quite well.  The offense will score a lot of points if everyone stays healthy. They, without question have all the right personnel to do that. They scored enough for the most part last year, especially in the early season although limited in what they could do with Jacoby Brissett at QB.  This year, they're banking on Watson to be more than good, cover up the teams other warts, and throw up big numbers.

Conversely, there is NO LOGICAL reason to think that their historically bad run defense will be a lot better.  They are banking on Jim Schwartz, the new defensive coordinator to save the day.  But as always, it comes down to players, philosophy, and roster decisions. As of this writing, they have a few players coming back from serious leg injuries and those are question marks at best.  They need to find proven defensive linemen and linebackers that can make a difference, and who knows if we signed or drafted those guys this off season. We thought we had last year and that didn't work out. We'll see, but they did not sign any real proven NFL difference maker.

They need to establish a defensive leader, and plan for even their best defenders to miss some games, as that is their well established track record.  They need to be bigger, stronger, and meaner to stop the run  -  or this season will resemble last.  And if analytics STILL INSIST their defense should be smaller and faster, this season will be over early.  Bigger men push around smaller men in the NFL over an 18 week season and certainly in the post season.

Special teams have a new coach named Bubba and this town is going to love him initially simply for that.  But can he get the overall kicking and return game to be more consistent?  Can we jump up about 10-12 places on the overall rankings of special teams to make us more competitive? The above questions and observations are nothing short of fair.

The AFC is loaded and the Browns today are not in the elite. The Chiefs, Bills, Bengals, Dolphins, Chargers, Jets, Ravens, and Jags are better -  today.  Plus, until we start beating them regular, so are the Steelers.  The Broncos and the Raiders this year are more than likely going to be at least a close match with us.  Each week will be imperative for the Browns with the AFC being so good.  Lucky for us, the schedule seems - today  - a bit softer than last year. There is also the added pressure of Stefanski being on the hot seat from day one, he must win.

Now we wait, and see what's next.
