The Most Wonderful Time of The Year!

Every so often, certain times in our lives line up perfectly. Seasons, holidays, time off, things working out just right to create something perfect.

Dear reader, this is that time.

If you have a sweet tooth like me, rejoice! We're in perfect alignment. Not only is today pączki day, but it's also Girl Scout cookie season, AND Shamrock Shake season! Induldge, for we are only so lucky for a short amount of time. I feel like Stanley from the Office on pretzel day. Enjoy yourself this Fat Tuesday, and try not to get a stomach ache!

Wynn - Eat Of The Week

These four words together, it's like opera!  Man, does this sound great this winter time - or spring time or whatever we're having this year.  My gut feeling too that this would go over well with the kids as well.

Let's dig in!

OMG - Cheezy Mashed Potato Pancakes??

It's tax season!

It's everyone's favorite time of year! Some of us will owe more money, and some of us will get some back. What I find stressful is getting every document to my mom so she can hand them off to the person who does our taxes.

Now my dad was a CPA and my mom worked as an accountant but the knowledge of numbers is NOT a strength I picked up...hence why I work in radio...LOL. Anything that looks important I just hand off saying this will probably be needed for tax purposes.

Good luck to you this tax season and may you not be audited :)

Mount Country

Today, I did a thing.  As I said, when I was a kid day-dreaming consumed most of my days... (or daze hahah)

Being President's Day makes me think of the 4 on Mt. Rushmore.  In my head, I want to picture Country Music's Mt. Rushmore.

Lydia said... Garth ,Luke Bryan,Alan Jackson & Toby Keith

Janet M... Let's put a female on the mountain. Willie, Garth, Jason Aldean & Shania

Katie... Toby Keith,Garth Brooks, Jason Aldean,Dolly Parton

Cassie in Strongsville... Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Toby Keith and Taylor Swift

Bob... Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and Charlie Daniels

Judy M said...Wayland, Willie, Merle, and Johnny

Chuck weighed in with... George Strait, Alan Jackson, Reba and Dolly

Shrek said... Willie Nelson, Reba, Travis Tritt & RANDY Travis

Linda said... Luke Combs, Shania, George Strait and asked if Bros. Osbourne counts as 1 or 2 artists..   (my response was we'll make their heads tiny and count'em as one... It's not like this is real.)

Lisa K said... Willie Nelson, George Strait, Loretta Lynn & Reba

Rebecca said... Dolly, Dolly, Dolly & Dolly that's it!

Josh said Morgan, Garth, Tim McGraw & Chris Stapleton

Lynn in Massillon...  Blake Shelton, Dierks Bentley, Thomas Rhett and Keith Urban

Allie wanted her Mt. Rushmore to be... Luke Bryan, Aldean, Brantley and Jelly Roll. (NOW GIVE ME TICKETS!!!)

There were sooo many more but I can't remember all the calls.... Texts were still rollin in when I was passing the mic to Rachel.

I think my Mt. Rushmore of Country artists would be George Strait, Alan Jackson, Eric Church, and Tim McGraw.

If you would like to be part of the fun obviously no wrong answers just Country Artists... hopefully you had President's Day off and got to relax to 94.9 WQMX.
Thank you to all who hung out and helped our friends at NEOPAT Saturday with Red, White and Bowl at Stonehedge Lanes in Akron.  You are all the best and judging by the lists above love country's best!

Here is Josh Turner who did a series on his Mt. Rushmore and performed a song from all the artists (not just 4)....

WYNN - Sunday Morning Song - 2/26

Sometimes it's tough to get songs to cut through and really get noticed. But I hope this one does. The wonderful Hannah Ellis has recorded a real nice song that deserves to be heard, Country Can.  It's a slick tribute to country in general, but stops short of being a straight up "list song."  But at it's core, it's country and that always scores points with me.  One thing I've noticed, is that the "Carly Pearce Effect" seems to be spreading and that's nice to see. Pearce has repeatedly and openly expressed she wants to be "country," and she is, and it's working for her on the charts with critical acclaim, and being honored by various award academies.  Fans will always respond well when they feel they are being dealt with honestly, you can't fool them anymore. This Ellis song is easy to listen to, and makes you glad that you like the music that you do. Ellis is certainly likable, and so is this country song.  Her more than friendly voice is the star of this song, along with the slick writing.  Hoping this song gets a foothold and finds a home high on the charts.

Grab a coffee, and catch, Country Can  -  Hannah Ellis!

Red White & Bowl was so much fun!

As you know, Saturday was the 3rd annual Red White & Bowl. We had so much fun! Neon Union was great, and then after their set the guys did some bowling and didn't do so bad :).

Speaking of that...on the WQMX lane, Cherise & I lit things up!!! We bowled two games - the first game I bowled a 172, and in the second game Cherise bowled a 174!!! I won't speak for Cherise, but I believe that is the best game I have ever bowled in my life! We each won those respective games :). The sales staff we were bowling with now want us as subs for their team in the bowling league! HAHA.

If you went, THANK YOU and I hope you had as much fun as the WQMX staff did. See you next year!

SW small Logo Country has a long history of songs that bring listeners together from many formats that are just fun to listen to. These "guilty pleasures" songs you may love privately, but not really want to admit in front of a bunch of people with varying musical tastes at the bonfire.  This is the third week I'm featuring Guilty Pleasure Songs from the last 43 years I've been in Country Radio.  All of these songs were big hits during their time and run, so let's look back at a few this week.  Week 3 -  Guilty Pleasure Songs 2  -  Guilty Pleasure Songs 1

No Order...

I'm Gonna Miss Her  - Brad Paisley -  2002

Brad Paisley has a terrific sense of humor and has written a bunch of songs that have a humorous element to them. Being honest, some are funnier than others.  But, this is a gem that I have loved since the first time I heard it.  The opening line of this song is one of my favorite lines ever in a country song.  To me, is Paisley at his funny best. We all know he is a gifted guitar player and a highly versatile artist that has run off a long run of really great songs. I have loved many Paisley songs over his career, but as far as his "fun" songs are concerned this is my favorite, as it is everything that is good about a "I didn't see that coming" country song. His third number one song  -   Other Articles About Featuring Brad Paisley

Bubba Shot The Jukebox  - Mark Chesnutt -  1992

I feel he is one of the most underrated artists of the 1990's, and maybe ever.  After his amazing debut song with Too Cold At Home, this was a fun song.  It's the story of a love-sick good ol' boy who destroys a jukebox buy shooting it and there is no harm or foul that follows.  It was a very interesting release especially after his debut song that to me was a terrific debut song, that was the direct opposite of this.  As silly was this is and was, it showed great versatility of a wonderful new artist at the time, and was really fun then and even now.  Peaked at number 4 on the charts.  - My Chesnutt Profile

I'm Gonna Hire A Wino (To Decorate Our Home) -  David Frizell - 1982

You may not know this song, but it was a big hit.  David Frizell was in a very successful recording duo with Shelly West in the early 1980's, and they rolled off some very popular songs. They each went solo and both had a few hits. This was his biggest song and fans loved it.  It tells the story of a guy that comes home every weekend night from the bar after drinking way too much and his wife decides to "Hire A Wino To Decorate Our Home" so he can just stay home and drink. Silly, yes, but a big number one in 1982.  It also was 3 minutes and 55 seconds, and then that was unheard of.  Country songs were way shorter as a rule.  I played this for years on stations across the country.
