WYNN - COUNTRY MUSIC MEMORY LANE - Guilty Pleasure Songs 3

Written by

SW small Logo Country has a long history of songs that bring listeners together from many formats that are just fun to listen to. These "guilty pleasures" songs you may love privately, but not really want to admit in front of a bunch of people with varying musical tastes at the bonfire.  This is the third week I'm featuring Guilty Pleasure Songs from the last 43 years I've been in Country Radio.  All of these songs were big hits during their time and run, so let's look back at a few this week.  Week 3 -  Guilty Pleasure Songs 2  -  Guilty Pleasure Songs 1

I'm Gonna Miss Her  - Brad Paisley -  2002

Brad Paisley has a terrific sense of humor and has written a bunch of songs that have a humorous element to them. Being honest, some are funnier than others.  But, this is a gem that I have loved since the first time I heard it.  The opening line of this song is one of my favorite lines ever in a country song.  To me, is Paisley at his funny best. We all know he is a gifted guitar player and a highly versatile artist that has run off a long run of really great songs. I have loved many Paisley songs over his career, but as far as his "fun" songs are concerned this is my favorite, as it is everything that is good about a "I didn't see that coming" country song. Bubba Shot The Jukebox  - Mark Chesnutt -  1992

I feel he is one of the most underrated artists of the 1990's, and maybe ever.  After his amazing debut song with Too Cold At Home, this was a fun song.  It's the story of a love-sick good ol' boy who destroys a jukebox buy shooting it and there is no harm or foul that follows.  It was a very interesting release especially after his debut song that to me was a terrific debut song, that was the direct opposite of this.  As silly was this is and was, it showed great versatility of a wonderful new artist at the time, and was really fun then and even now.  Peaked at number 4 on the charts.  - My Chesnutt Profile

I'm Gonna Hire A Wino (To Decorate Our Home) -  David Frizell - 1982

You may not know this song, but it was a big hit.  David Frizell was in a very successful recording duo with Shelly West in the early 1980's, and they rolled off some very popular songs. They each went solo and both had a few hits. This was his biggest song and fans loved it.  It tells the story of a guy that comes home every weekend night from the bar after drinking way too much and his wife decides to "Hire A Wino To Decorate Our Home" so he can just stay home and drink. Silly, yes, but a big number one in 1982.  It also was 3 minutes and 55 seconds, and then that was unheard of.  Country songs were way shorter as a rule.  I played this for years on stations across the country.
