With the big Dan + Shay show at Blossom this Friday alongside Jake Owen and Dylan Marlowe, WQMX is having some fun hooking up listeners with tickets to be there. We're playing Dan or Shay, where you can call in to guess: is it Dan or Shay? Be the lucky caller and answer correctly, and you'll win a pair of lawn passes!
So... how about a little edge? Consider this something of a study guide. I personally don't know what questions will be asked, but this may be helpful. While we're at it, to make it easy on yourself, add the WQMX studio line to the contacts in your phone. That number is 330-370-2000.

It's the prime time to be on a motorcycle at this point in the year, and I've sure been riding often. Being on the bike is blissful, even if it's just for my work commute.
Honestly, I might even prefer riding the old Nighthawk around in the dark, as I often do on my way to and from the station. Both the motorcycle and I stay cooler, for starters. It can get pretty hot sitting at a stoplight with the sun beating down on a black bike in ninety-degree heat.
The biggest advantage of riding between dusk and dawn, though, is the lack of traffic. Although I'm debatably more difficult to see at night, I feel safer as one of the only vehicles on the roadways. Fewer cars should equate to a lesser chance for collision, with drivers distracted and otherwise. That's my theory, at least.
Yet again, I'd like to casually remind you to please look out for motorcycles, day and night. It's something that means a lot to me, as a rider and as someone with friends and family who ride. Thank you, and thanks for listening to WQMX!
My biggest boy is now 50 pounds. He's huge!
Hank's a great pup and training is going decent. He's a little heartthrob, I like to say. Wherever we go, he soaks up all the attention and puts smiles on faces. Somehow, he gets a treat in every drive-through too, from the bank to the burger joint. He's a good boy.
Hank just loves to socialize, and I think that's superb.
It's another Top Ten Thursday, and all through this week on WQMX, we've been giving away pairs of tickets for admission to Cedar Point! You can still get in on that chance to win with Scott and Sarah in the morning and again with Ben McKee in the afternoon through Friday.
With that, let's rank some coasters! As a lifelong Ohioan, I could only guess the number of times I've been up to Sandusky for a day of fun and thrills at one of the greatest amusement parks in the country. Cedar Point is a special place for me and many others- it's an atmosphere like no other. From sunup to sunset, if I'm there, I'm having a good time.
Sure, sometimes the lines are painfully long, or the weather is unfavorable, but the world is off my shoulders once I step through those gates and into that wonderland. So, here's the rides I like most at the park we like best!
10. Magnum XL-200
9. Gemini
8. Rougarou
7. Corkscrew
6. Millenium Force
5. Gatekeeper
4. Maxx Air
3. Maverick
2. Raptor
1. Blue Streak
I wanted to show off my latest white-board drawing. It's a pond!
It's on a board in a different studio room, so if you were wondering about the truck- it's still up.
I really enjoy bringing some color to an otherwise blank canvas, and I hope my coworkers appreciate the "art." It's an office environment around here, but that doesn't mean it has to be bland!
I'm finally amassing a collection of dry-erase markers and it's never too soon to start thinking about what I'll put up next. For now, though, this will do!
Neon Nights is coming up soon, and I know I'm stoked. It's the weekend of August 9th and 10th at Clay's Resort Jellystone park in Canal Fulton, and we've got some big acts coming to town. That would include Brad Paisley, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Trace Adkins, and Blackhawk; to name a few!
In whatever fashion you'd like to attend the festival, tickets are still available. (WQMX has also been hooking listeners up with our Neon Nights Glowaway.) You can come one day or both, and you can choose to commute or camp as well. It's going to be so much fun!
If you've got passes already, it's not a bad idea to revisit this website to freshen up on what to expect: FAQ - The Neon Nights Country Music Festival 2024
We hope to see you there!
I caught up with Cherise on Sunday at Valley Motor City in the Falls for some morning-time fun. Not only was it a WQMX Send Me Backstage Ticket Stop with the opportunity to win passes to Neon Nights, but it was also a cars and coffee event with some really cool rides.
Of course, that meant I had to pull up in my El Camino, and it was a perfect summer day for cruising. I talked with some nice folk while I was there and enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere, watching hot rods and classics come and go while sipping on my coffee.
I came with a mug of some hot homebrew; once that was gone, Travelin' Tom's Coffee Truck made me a delicious raspberry lemonade for free! I believe it was courtesy of Valley Motor City, so I'd like to thank them for that, for hosting the event, and for inviting WQMX on out as well.
Also, a big congratulations goes out to listener Linda. She stopped out to try to win some Neon Nights passes- and she did! It was a good time Sunday morning with thanks to everyone who showed up.
WQMX is stationed in Akron, and there's something in our backyard that's wildly underappreciated- the zoo!
I went to the Akron Zoo on Wednesday with my brother and my fiancée, and we had a blast. We spent a few hours checking out all the exhibits and walked a little less than three miles in total. It was a beautiful sunny day and an amazing way to get some steps in.
There's plenty of great reasons to visit and support this community asset. If you've got children, you'll appreciate the family-friendliness of the place. It's affordable too, especially mid-week. You're bound to learn something about this world we live in and all its creatures, and it's easy to navigate. What's more, despite the smaller size of the zoo, there's still a great variety of animals to enjoy viewing.
I listed my favorites there in a previous blog: https://wqmx.com/on-air/joe-headley/item/15480-my-top-ten-zoo-animals
I appreciate you reading this, and thanks for listening to 94.9 WQMX!
The 2024 Summer Olympics begin this week in Paris, with the official opening ceremony happening Friday. They'll run through August 11th, and in that time athletes will perform in over 30 different sports.
Some of these events are awesome to watch, and some are not so much. Truthfully, I'm a lot more excited when the X-Games air, but I understand the significance of the Olympics. It's the pinnacle of competition, with the world's very best coming head-to-head. As such, I think it's appropriate for this week's top ten list to be about them.
Going for gold, here's my top ten Olympic Sports!
10. Archery
9. Tennis
8. Baseball
7. Boxing
6. Basketball
5. Volleyball
4. Surfing
3. Table Tennis
2. Cycling

Alright... I'm over it!
It's that point in summertime where I've more-or-less had enough of the heat and I'm ready for what's next. I'm excited to pull out some of the clothes I have packed away and do all the fun fall things. Autumn is my favorite season, after all, and these cool temperatures we've been dropping down to during the overnight hours have me longing for those crisp mornings, crunchy leaves, and signature flavors.
Who's with me?
