These hot days we've been having are keeping me indoors for the most part, and so I've been having some fun playing video games. There was never a point in my life that we didn't have some console or portable device for gaming, and I've had experience playing on a wide range of systems.
Exclusive game titles, graphics, controller feel, online connection, subscription costs, nostalgia, and so many more factors go into ordering this list. I'd say it was equally difficult to deciding upon my favorite video games, themselves. (My opinions have changed slightly since then, too.)
From the N.E.S. to the Switch and beyond, it's my top ten video game consoles!
10. Super Nintendo Entertainment System
9. Sega Genesis
8. Nintendo Game Cube
7. Sony PlayStation
6. Nintendo Entertainment System
5. Nintendo Switch
4. Microsoft Xbox One
3. Nintendo Wii
2. Microsoft Xbox 360
1. Sony PlayStation 2
There you have it. That's this week's top ten list; thanks for reading!
The Country Fest 2024 was amazing. We're still grinning from the experience, but if you weren't so fortunate as to have been there, don't worry!
You can get a slice of that joy down at Clay's Resort Jellystone Park in about a month and a half for Neon Nights! We're already really looking forward to that, and if you want to avoid the FOMO on some awesome shows at a great location, let me make it easy on you and drop the link right here: The Neon Nights
We'll see you there in August!
This is that type of heat Rodney Atkins sang about!
Seriously, please be safe out there and stay hydrated! Here's a great resource if you or someone you know need an escape from the heat: Akron Cooling Center Info
The Country Fest- wow! What an amazing few days at Clay's Resort Jellystone park. What really makes this a special time are the people.
I want to say thank you to everybody who had a part in the festival. That goes from the artists up on the stage to each and every fan out in the audience. I can't forget to also include the organizers and staff for The Country Fest, the vendors, the good folks at Clay's, the first responders and security team, our friends from the Dusty, all the awesome sponsors like Monster Energy and General RV, and our wonderful crew here at WQMX!
Personally, I'm especially grateful to have been there in the first place. Our staff is full of some awesome people and it's nice to get to chat with everybody and bond off the clock. I appreciate my mom who helped to take care of my pup and let me crash at her place. Thanks goes out to my fiancée, Mackenzie, who was even so kind as to take a few photos for us and help pick some folks to send backstage.
The biggest thank you will always go to the fans, though. You're the reason we do these events, from intimate acoustic sessions at venues like the Akron Civic to full blown festivals and concerts as such. WQMX is live and local, truly.
We were met with so much love at The Country Fest 2024 and for that- well, thank you!
To begin, can I ask one big thing of you? When you go fishing, please don't litter.
You see, I went to the Mogadore Reservoir yesterday to do some fishing, and the area is just gorgeous. The weather was perfect, the water was blue, and it was all-around peaceful as I followed a narrow trail down towards the shoreline. Vibes were good until I came upon the spot and found myself surrounded by littered trash.
I love fishing, but this kind of behavior I cannot stand.
That aside, I wanted to ask what the word is on fishing east of Akron. Yesterday, I didn't even get a nibble, and I'm curious where you go and what you're casting with. I'm only familiar with the Portage Lakes, Turkeyfoot and Nimisila specifically.
330-370-2000 is the WQMX studio line (sponsored by Toth Buick GMC) and the best way to connect with me here at the station at any hour. Drop a message and help a guy out!
As always, thanks so much for reading this blog. I'll be at The Country Fest these next few days, so keep it tuned to WQMX, and we'll catch up here next week.
It's the big week. The Country Fest 2024 starts Wednesday and runs through Saturday night!
Maybe this year is your first time going or it's been a while since you've been out to Clay's Park. Whatever the case, I'd recommend taking a look at this link to make sure you're all set to have a fun time: FAQ - The Country Fest
There's also some good news for someone like me that isn't specifically mentioned on that webpage. Word has it, both card and cash will be accepted at all the vendors! That's awesome.
Thanks for visiting WQMX.com, and hopefully we'll see you there at the festival.
Hank's second time on the boat was less enjoyable than his first. He was bad! It's tough to be upset, though, with that cute face.
My fiancée Mackenzie and I did some floating around and, after some time, we anchored at a little honey hole. At first, Hank was restless, but he settled down and slept for a long time. We caught a handful of fish and enjoyed a peaceful hour (or two) under the sun.
Then, when Hank awoke, it all changed. He turned into a total menace with a bad attitude! His misbehavior and desire to jump overboard made it time to head back to the launch.
All in all, it was a fun afternoon out on the water. I love my boat, dog, and fiancée!
What an amazing concert! It was my first time out at Blossom this season and an overall awesome evening out on the lawn.
Just coming into the place, it was apparent this was going to be a huge show. Before we could even make it to the signs that read sold out, we came upon some major traffic. We shimmied through it all in decent time, and I made it over to the WQMX setup.
I met some awesome listeners at the tent, and we invited everybody to enter to win Hank Williams Jr. tickets. The crowds flooded in continuously, and we packed up once Megan Moroney started playing.
She was amazing! Don't hate me, but I was honestly more excited to see her perform than the main act, and she did not disappoint. The only song I wish she would have played but didn't was "Sad Songs for Sad People." She did, however, play my favorite, "Sleep On My Side." She also played her brand-new song which just dropped at midnight, as well as some other great songs. To no surprise, she capped it off with "Tennessee Orange."
After a fairly long intermission, as the sky grew dimmer, the ambient music came to a stop and something was clearly about to happen. The big screens lit up with a video of No Shoes Nation, Kenny Chesney and his fans, introducing the tour. Yachts, beaches, bikinis- you know the vibes.
When that faded out, the stage lit up showing the full band with Kenny centerstage. They came in hitting hard with a loud sound and big overall presence. He played all the hits and sounded like a million bucks.
It was a popping show for Blossom and a gorgeous night too. The dark clouds passed by and we all stayed dry, and it was temperate with a nice little breeze. We couldn't ask for better! Kenny kept laying down his best, Megan was fabulous, and we had a great concert night.
Be sure to check out our WQMX social media pages for all the pictures from the show. I'll be at Blossom next for Hank Williams Jr. coming up Friday, June 21st. If you're going to that or any other country concerts this season, maybe we'll see you there!
Here's Megan Moroney's brand new release:
It's fishin' season! I haven't been out to the lake so far this year nearly as much as I would like to, but there's still plenty of time.
I've been fishing for as long as I can remember. I've fished everywhere from Canada to Florida, and for all sorts of different species. There's always a pole in my car.
I never quite figured it out, but I have tried fly fishing. It's not for me.
Whether it's a lake, pond, or river; I'll cast a line. I will stick to freshwater, though. There're so many other things to do when I take a vacation to the ocean that I'd rather leave my tackle box behind, anyways.
So, from the boat or the dock, it's my top ten favorite fish to catch!
10. Channel Catfish
9. Blue Gill
8. Sunfish
7. Walleye
6. Crappie
5. White Bass
4. Northern Pike
3. Yellow Perch
2. Smallmouth Bass
1. Largemouth Bass
My favorite way to fish is with a nightcrawler on a hook and a bobber. I'll set one of those up and then do some casting with a second pole and a lure.
It's called fishing and not catching, though, and for me that stands true. It's always better when I reel in some hogs, but it's really just about being out there.
There's this week's top ten list. If you ever want to talk fishing, I'm here for it! Thanks for reading and be sure to enjoy summertime.
I'm not sure why exactly, but I've really been craving popsicles recently. We have those patriotic Bomb-Pops, Grape, Orange, and some flavor that is red. (I'm hoping they're cherry.) They're just so good!
I'm like that with a lot of stuff. I'll get on a kick, then want nothing to do with whatever I was previously obsessed with. That goes beyond food too. It's like a light switch; I'll go all in and totally ditch the last thing. That could be fishing, skateboarding, cheese, or candy!
