WYNN - #10 - 9 To 5 - Dolly Parton - 1980

We've made it to the top ten, and now here come the real heavyweights.  Good time to remind you this is the "Most Important Country Songs" list.  This song is exceptionally so, because what this gigantic world wide hit did was make Dolly Parton a real household name with everyone on the planet.  Of course she was popular well before this, but this was the next huge step for her.  In 1978, she recorded, Here You Come Again, and that album was huge. That album took Dolly very mainstream as songs from that project charted very well on country and pop charts.  But this song, the theme from the very successful movie of the same name that Dolly starred with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, sent Dolly on an orbit that she is still circumnavigating.  The entire world fell in love with Dolly then, and really learned who she was, and we are still in love with her.  This was a #1 across the board, and became a working mans anthem for years.   It sold countless millions around the world, and has been used in ad campaigns, movies and TV shows for the past 40 years, even making it into Deadpool 2.  This also introduced us to a lot of new fans that loved the movie, and their new friend Dolly, and convinced millions we were a great format with great songs.  Songs don't get a lot bigger than this, and what this did for Dolly's career, and for country in general can't really be accurately described.  It's simply one of the biggest country and pop crossover songs of all time.
