I'm here for it!

There's a new movie that was announced this week, and I'm sure you have some level of familiarity with the subject matter. It's called A Minecraft Movie, inspired by the cultural phenomenon that is the video game.

I've been playing Minecraft since the start, back when the free version on PC was all the rave in my middle school classroom. Shortly after that, in 2012, the game came out for the Xbox 360. That's when everything changed and Minecraft became a household name, I think. Everybody played it.

I couldn't fathom how many hours of my life I've spent playing Minecraft, and honestly those have been some of the best times. I remember sleeping over at my friend's house on a weekend and staying up until dawn with controllers in our hands letting our creativity and sense of wonder go. Separately too, we'd all connect online together and collaborate. Those adventures exploring deep caves, farming crops, building, and crafting were so much fun, and players all around the world know just what I mean.

Though not quite as it once was, it's still hugely popular. I'm not sure if any other game has stood the test of time like Minecraft, and this movie is a long time coming. So, it ought to be done right, and I'm not exactly filled with confidence about how it's looking.

Check it out, and below, I'll tell you my impressions.

The first thing that gets me here is Jack Black as Steve. I hope that's some sort of joke, as I really don't think that's good casting. And I love Jack Black. That's just a bad fit all around.

Jason Momoa, on the other hand, I'm excited to see starring. He's got a mass appeal and brings a great mix of rugged strength and tender lovability to the roles he portrays. I'd consider him something of a John Cena type.

The visuals in this trailer make it seem heavy on the green screen, and I'm wondering if this flick is just going to end up as a one-and-done discount family movie night. Something you rent, but definitely don't go back and buy.

It's still got potential, so I'll give it a shot! How do you feel about it?
