Sense and Independence

Written by

When I think of Independence Day in the United States of America, a few things are synonymous with the holiday. Above all else is patriotism, and to display our love for this country of ours we use the colors red, white, and blue. You'll see this combo everywhere: on our flags flying high, in our outfits, decorations, and even foods! Pair that with some stunning fireworks, and you've got the visual symbols of the 4th of July.

As for the tastes of the holiday, it's all about the cookouts. From the juicy watermelon to that all-American classic hotdog, Independence Day wouldn't be the same without our favorite summer foods. Between all the fun in the sun, it's great to keep cool with a frozen treat like a bomb pop. We'll savor the flavors of our favorite beverages too; whether that's beer, lemonade, or... maybe a lemonade beer!

Our noses will draw us towards the grill as the fixins are cooking, and later on, we'll smell the smoke of campfires in the crisp nighttime air. You might also get a whiff of gunpowder or smell those sparklers for the kids. Sunscreen and bug spray make the list, and for me, it's also the enticing scent of two-stroke burning in an old outboard.

As for touch, we'll feel pride and gratitude for the U.S. of A. We'll feel the sun on our skin and the green grass beneath our feet, and maybe a nice breeze too.

Last, but certainly not least, is what we'll hear. I hope you'll join Your Country 94.9 WQMX through the weekend as we celebrate the 4th of July holiday! I'll surely be tuned in while I'm out on my boat and in my backyard. For many, country music is extra-special at this time of year, and we'll be saluting the red, white, and blue with some favorites from the likes of Toby Keith and more.

Have fun and stay safe this weekend!
