The saying, "That ain't country" is nothing new. It's been going on the entire time I've been in country radio, and continues today.  Sometimes it's right on the money, and then there are times it's up for debate. For the next few weeks, I'll feature artists that got a fair amount of play on country radio at one time, and we can decide if in fact they were or were not.  Keep in mind when…

WYNN - The Forgotten Jukebox

Written by
Wednesdays here now have a new feature that will run for the foreseeable future, The Forgotten Jukebox Series.  I will spotlight a big hit song - post 1980 - that you just don't hear anywhere anymore.  All of these songs were very popular at the time, in fact most were number ones, and they all are from great artists that you know and love.  Many times we still play a ton of songs from these…

WYNN - #43 - If Lovin' You Is Wrong - Barbara Mandrell

Written by
If Lovin' You Is Wrong  (I Don't Wanna Be Right)  - Barbara Mandrell  -  1978 Released before my time on country radio but I played this for many years on great radio stations across the country.  This was a big hit for Barbara Mandrell, that catapulted her squarely into the brightest mainstream spotlight.  Mandrell had been around for a good while in Nashville but this huge country and crossover pop hit was career changing.  This…

Wynn - Eat Of The Week

These four words together, it's like opera!  Man, does this sound great this winter time - or spring time or whatever we're having this year.  My gut feeling too that this would go over well with the kids as well. Let's dig in! OMG - Cheezy Mashed Potato Pancakes??

WYNN - Sunday Morning Song - 2/26

Sometimes it's tough to get songs to cut through and really get noticed. But I hope this one does. The wonderful Hannah Ellis has recorded a real nice song that deserves to be heard, Country Can.  It's a slick tribute to country in general, but stops short of being a straight up "list song."  But at it's core, it's country and that always scores points with me.  One thing I've noticed, is that the "Carly…

WYNN - Sleeping Is Not Easy?

Written by
Remember when sleeping was just that?  Sleeping!  We would just lay down and in a few minutes it was the next morning.  Well it seems for many, if not all of us, those glorious days are over.  So many things now affect our sleep, and almost all of it is self-inflicted. I maybe the wrong person to ask for sleeping advice, I've been getting up at 230Am for the past 4 decades to do morning…
Lotta Leavin' Left To Do - Dierks Bentley  -  2005 This song for me is what Dierks Bentley is REALLY all about.  I have talked with some close to Dierks over the years at various concerts backstage and they all say his real, true musical love is deep country and the like.  I am a big fan of Dierks and when I hear him sing this song from the insanely great Modern Day Drifter album,…
